Every Elder Scrolls game since Morrowind has had at least a few major DLC packs that improve upon the base game by adding new content and equipment. Some of these expansion packs only add a new player home or weapon, while there are also some that add entirely new regions into the game.

Fan-favorite DLC packs such as Dawnguard and Bloodmoon are regarded as a few of the best DLCs ever released in RPG history. You may not even know about some of these DLCs because a lot of smaller expansions have been released for The Elder Scrolls games, and they flew under a lot of player's radars.

10 Oblivion: The Fighter's Stronghold

Although there are many different player homes in Oblivion, there are none quite as grand as The Fighter's Stronghold, which was introduced as its own separate DLC pack.

The DLC pack is incredibly small, as it only brought this new player home and a small quest to defeat bandits into the game. The actual home includes many different rooms, including a blacksmith area for upgrading your gear and the possibility to furnish different parts of the stronghold. There were a lot of small DLC packs for Oblivion among the two main packs, and this was one of the best of the bunch.

9 Oblivion: The Orrery

The Orrery is another small DLC pack introduced as Oblivion's second expansion for the base game. This DLC doesn't add a lot, as it simply allows you to repair the Orrery and gain a permanent bonus that boosts one skill.

However, the downside for the new ability is that it will also have a negative effect on a different skill as well. The Orrery DLC includes a small quest and this one reward, which is why it is more useful than The Fighter's Stronghold.

8 Skyrim: Hearthfire

The Hearthfire DLC isn't the largest expansion for Skyrim; however, it is one of the most beloved DLCs in the entirety of The Elder Scrolls franchise. This expansion allows you to build your own house on three separate plots of land, each of them with its own unique advantages.

You can build many different types of rooms, including a library, a kitchen, and even an armory. Every adventurer needs a place to call home, and although the other player homes in Skyrim are great, they don't quite compare to building your own, which is only available with the Hearthfire DLC.

7 Oblivion: Mehrunes' Razor

Mehrunes' Razor is the third-largest DLC pack that was introduced for Oblivion, smaller than Knights Of The Nine and The Shivering Isles. This expansion adds a new Daedric artifact into the game, as well as a large dungeon, a quest, and other unique pieces of equipment to obtain.

Although Mehrunes' Razor isn't quite as large as an expansion like The Shivering Isles, it was a nice addition to Oblivion and added enough content to justify its purchase for fans of Oblivion that are looking for some extra official content to enjoy. However, it would have been better if the questline for this DLC was longer. Mehrunes' Razor is the main reward in this DLC.

6 Oblivion: Knights Of The Nine

The Knights Of The Nine is the second largest expansion in Oblivion, and it adds a long questline that revolves around The Knights Of The Nine faction. This new faction is a religious group that worships the Nine Divines.

During the Knights Of The Nine DLC, you will defeat a dark force while aiding The Knights Of The Nine faction and restoring it to glory. There are many new things to explore in this DLC; however, there isn't a new region included.

5 Morrowind: Tribunal

tribunal dlc armor, morrowind

Tribunal is one of the most interesting DLCs in Elder Scrolls history. Not only does this expansion pack include a new questline, but it also has a plot revolving around the Gods of Morrowind and a new king that has recently taken power.

There are new quests to complete, equipment to obtain, and locations to explore in the Tribunal expansion. This DLC is one of the reasons that Morrowind gets such high praise in terms of storytelling — the plot is well-written and fascinating to learn about.

4 Morrowind: Bloodmoon

island of solstheim, morrowind

Morrowind is filled with adventure, and the Bloodmoon DLC allows players to explore an entirely new region: the island of Solstheim. Skyrim players that never got the chance to play Morrowind will remember this region from the Dragonborn DLC; however, it was covered with even more snow during the events of Morrowind.

During the storyline of the Bloodmoon DLC, the player character could become a werewolf and/or destroy the werewolves of Solstheim. Regardless of which path you pick, a great journey will be upon you in the Bloodmoon DLC.

3 Skyrim: Dragonborn

The Dragonborn DLC takes The Elder Scrolls players back to Solstheim for another adventure. This time, the legendary Miraak is trying to take over the Island and eventually, the rest of Tamriel.

As the only living Dragonborn of the era, you must stop the first Dragonborn Miraak before he enslaves Tamriel. The giant island is once again open for exploration, and there are many new quests, armor, powerful weapons, and characters to discover.

2 Skyrim: Dawnguard

The Dawnguard DLC doesn't introduce any new major area to explore; however, it's still one of the best expansion packs that have ever been released in The Elder Scrolls franchise. The plot of this DLC will have you fighting a vampire menace and deciding between joining the Dawnguard faction or the Volkihar Vampire faction themselves. You can even become a vampire lord, which grants a brand new transformation.

The Dawnguard DLC is around ten hours in length, has a ton of side content to complete, and introduces some small new areas to explore, including the Soul Cairn.

1 Oblivion: Shivering Isles

The Shivering Isles is the largest DLC pack in Oblivion. It adds new characters, quests, equipment, and a giant area to explore. This new area is Sheogorath's Daedric realm, which fits with Oblivion's Daedric theme.

What makes the Shivering Isles the best DLC ever released in The Elder Scrolls franchise is Sheogorath himself. This Daedric Prince is hilarious while also being important to the balance of the different Daedric Lords. You can have a laugh and an adventure by playing the Shivering Isles DLC, which is what makes it so unique.
