The Last Hero of Nostalgaia is a Soulslike that draws heavy inspiration from the beloved Soulsborne titles by FromSoftware. And as a result, the game has many mysteries and systems for you to figure out as you trudge through the world trying to breathe life into the pixelated hellscape you're dropped into at the start of the game.

One of many mysterious systems you will be introduced early to are the Unstable Objects found throughout the world of Nostalgaia. However, as expected, there is a way to Restore these Objects to a usable state, allowing you to access new areas or receive rare items.

Unstable Objects Overview

An Unstable Door in The Last Hero of Nostalgaia

When you first dive into the world of Nostalgaia and start exploring and slaying enemies, you will come across a door that flickers from a solid Object to a pixelated and distorted mess. As you try to interact with it, you will be told that the Object is Unstable, which will pretty much be the end of that. From that point onward, you will encounter more Unstable doors and even chests, leading you to think that you may have missed a crucial item or information on how to Restore them.

Luckily for you, you haven't. This feature just comes in much later in your playthrough and will require a bit of time and effort to become available to you. However, the good news is that you cannot miss this feature if you follow the game's critical path, but you should try and learn how to Restore Unstable Objects as early as possible as it will help you tremendously in the long run.

How To Restore Unstable Objects

Before you can Restore Unstable Objects, you must first progress through a specific part of the game. To make things a bit easier to digest, please refer to the section below to check your progress!

Requirements

  • Defeat The Grinder Boss in The Depth
  • Reach The Theater Tether in the following area

With the above requirements met, you are almost at your goal of learning the ability to Restore Objects in The Last Hero of Nostalgaia.

Next, you will want to take the exit to the left of the Tether that leads downstairs and follow it all the way down until you reach a large lift in the middle of the room. Pull the lever to open the lift, step onto it, and take it to the top of the room.

Once here, you will see a doorway in front of you. But, if you turn around while on the lift, you will see another doorway behind you. This is the one you want. Take this exit and then follow the next steps.

The Spiral Staircase of The Theater in The Last Hero of Nostalgaia

Follow the pathway until you reach a courtyard full of enemies and take them out. After that, you will see a staircase to the left and right, take the spiral staircase on the right and follow it down until you reach a door. Open the door and make your way inside the Theater.

The Stage of The Theater in The Last Hero of Nostalgaia

Now, you will want to work your way down to the stage but be prepared for a handful of enemies as your make your descent. Upon reaching the stage, you will see the Old Man standing on it (not pictured above). Speak with the Old Man and exhaust his dialogue, in which he will teach you the method of Restoring Unstable Objects.

Upon exhausting all dialogue options with the Old Man, you will now be able to interact with Unstable Objects and Restore them with your Memory (Souls). While some can cost pretty hefty amounts of Memory to Restore, it's almost always worth it, as you will gain access to secret areas or unique items that help you out quite a bit. Furthermore, these will often lead to places where you can Remember a piece of your Equipment, which is helpful for various reasons.

We recommend unlocking this feature as quickly as possible if you can swing it and Restoring every Unstable Object you come across if you have the Memory to do so. Lastly, there will be a shortcut just after the door you need to Restore to progress in the story that will lead you back to the Oreshaft Smelter Tether. We strongly urge you to take this time to revisit previous locations and Restore all of the Unstable Objects you have passed and could do nothing about up to this point.

Most of the items you will receive and locations you gain access to are worth the backtrack and required Memory. Some of the later bosses can be a bit tricky and challenging, so taking a moment to revisit past areas and get valuable loot or upgrading your Insight will be a substantial help for you down the road.
