The outbreak that occurs at the start of The Last Of Us wipes out plenty of people. So, you don't meet an abundance of folks during the game. Most of the places you go are simply filled with infected creatures instead.

Yet, there are still some people roaming around, either in small groups or large communities. Unfortunately, they're often desperate folks struggling to survive, meaning most can't be trusted. In fact, almost all the characters in the game are morally ambiguous. However, there isn't much ambiguity in David, as he's certainly evil. Here's everything you need to know about him.

David's Group

There isn't much known about David's life prior to the events of The Last Of Us. However, during the game, he is the leader of a large community of survivors. They're located in Silver Lake, but some members venture out for supply runs.

It's fair to say they aren't the friendliest bunch, as they're generally bloodthirsty and will attack people on sight. This already sounds bad, but it actually gets worse. After all, they're all cannibals, and they don't seem to feel bad about eating people. It's their way of surviving the post-apocalyptic world.

Personality

David is one of the cruelest and most despicable people in the Last Of Us universe. But he's not as violent or aggressive as you may expect him to be. The guy generally tries to avoid violence until he deems it necessary. And he's often a calm and collected figure.

But a lot of this is also part of his act, as the man is very manipulative, which is shown in his interactions with Ellie. When he's trying to gain her trust, he makes sure to give her plenty of compliments and even plays down his own abilities in comparison. Then when he breaks the facade, he pretends Ellie has the better of him, so she will leave and lead them to Joel. Thus, he is a master of deceit.

One positive trait he has is that he's a caring leader. He's very determined to provide for his people, even going on dangerous hunting escapades to get them food. Plus, he clearly doesn't run the place with an iron fist since people aren't afraid to openly question or even disobey his orders.

Interest In Ellie

As David's group are cannibals, you'd think they'd eat every outsider they find, but he doesn't initially try to do that to Ellie. In fact, he does his best to protect her from the infected and his own men. This is because he wants her to join his crew.

He doesn't want her in the community because she's a great shot or a good hunter, though. Unfortunately, he has a sexual interest in the young girl. This is only alluded to in the game, but it has been confirmed by people in interviews, including his voice actor, Nolan North. This interest likely stems from the lack of adult women left.

Death

While he desperately wants to add Ellie to his crew at first, the relationship eventually goes downhill. She not only continually rejects him, but she also breaks his finger. So, he changes his mind about keeping her and intends to chop her up for food.

A brief distraction leads to her killing his right-hand man and escaping captivity. But eventually, Ellie has to face the man. It's a violent conflict, which ends when the girl gets the better of David and kills him with a machete. It isn't just a simple stab, either. She repeatedly hits him with the blade in a frenzied panic. The whole ordeal leaves Ellie scarred, but it rids the world of this awful man.
