There are a lot of games getting adaptations right now, but the one with the most hype might well be HBO's The Last Of Us. Partly due to how good it looks, but also because its arrival is right around the corner. The show is even closer than some might have thought, as it appears to have been confirmed its debut episode will premiere on January 15, 2023.The show had previously been given a label of 2023. Although it was assumed that meant earlier in the year rather than later, it could have meant fans were still a full year away from seeing Pedro Pascal's Joel. Thankfully that won't be the case, as fans of the games noticed its release date tucked away in a short paragraph on HBO Max.RELATED: The Last Of Us Part 2's Rat King Encounter Is The Series’ Scariest MomentThe date has been discovered in a blurb for the show that reads, “A preview of the post-apocalyptic drama series based on the critically acclaimed video game. Premieres Jan. 15.” The date doesn't appear to have been shared via any official channels just yet, but it appearing on a preview for the show on the streaming service on which it will debut is about as close to concrete evidence as it gets.

The first trailer for the show debuted at the end of September, giving fans a proper look at the aforementioned Pascal and Bella Ramsey, of Game of Thrones fame, who will play Ellie. That trailer racked up more than 12 million views in its first 24 hours, earning The Last Of Us the label of HBO's next big project after House of the Dragon. Quite big shoes to fill after the success of the Thrones spinoff's first season.

Suffice to say, the hype is pretty high for HBO's take on The Last Of Us. One that appears to be pretty faithful to the games judging by that first trailer. News that there's now only a little more than two months to go until the show debuts will kick that hype train into overdrive. Now, where's that multiplayer spinoff which will apparently be free to play?
