We're continuing with our full The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD walkthrough, and in this guide we're breaking down the Earth Temple. The Earth Temple is hidden away on top of Eldin Volcano, and even if you can find the door, it's awkward to find the Key Pieces you need to unlock it. If you need help getting inside still, make sure to check our previous guide to climb Eldin Volcano.

Getting The Bomb Bag, Earth Temple - Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

The first big room of the dungeon looks intimidating, but you can just push straight through to the end. Cross the first few stones in the lava, and then continue forward - there stones will be raised by lava plumes. Hop onto the second one when it's low, wait for the lava, and hop across. To open this gate you need to cut the two ropes on either side of this platform with your sword swipes. Then you need to hit one more, which you'll need to cut with your Beetle - it's to the right of the gate, near the hole in the wall. Cross over and then fight the Lizalfos.

You'll need a big orb to navigate this room - you'll see a structure in the lava with Bomb Flowers growing on it - shoot them to blow the structure, and the large eye will drop into the lava, allowing you to balance on it to move through the area. Head straight for the right side of the stage, where the Mogma is. This Mogma needs you to blow the vulnerable rock, but he can't reach the bombs. Crawl inside of the large caged area, and then roll a bomb down through the crawlspace to blow the wall apart, revealing a door.

Head inside, and there will be two Lizalfos to fight this time. It'll be a tough fight, but just watch your health and don't drop into the lava. Once you defeat them both, a chest will appear giving you the Bomb Bag you needed. You can refill it via Bomb Flowers by picking them up and pressing B to put them in your bag.

Finding The Dungeon Map, Earth Temple - Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

Now that we have the Bomb Bag, head to the central platform in the middle of the lava by using the eye again. Head up the left staircase and throw a bomb on top of the rock to blow it away. Jump over the gap, and through the door into the next room. This room is, again, deceptively simple. The rock platform at the back of this lava room raises up with plumes - simply hop your way over there and wait for it to raise up while stood on it. On the upper platform, wipe out the simple Bokoblins and take the chest.

Just like in the Skyview Temple, the Dungeon Map will reveal a few locations which you may have ignored until now. In the main room there's a passage that links into the lava, but it's not visible. It is, however, marked with a red X, so you'll see it on your map.

Opening The Bridge In The Main Room With The Giant Orb, Earth Temple - Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

Hop back on the lava eye, and before you head over to this X, go through the passage you hopped over after exiting the last room on the lava eye to make your way to the left side of the room. There is a weird switch to push against protruding from the side of the bridge which leads from the main platform to the North - this bridge needs to be raised by being pushed in from both sides. Push the switch in by rolling the lava eye into it, and then head to the other side of the room, where the red X is - we only need to open this next passage so we can roll the lava eye to the other side of the switch.

The red X on the map marks where you can blow a hole in the wall with a bomb. Use a bomb, throw it, blow the wall. You can the ball on in. Avoid the lava spout, and feel free to roll over enemies to crush them. Use the room on the right to refill on bombs, if necessary, and then you'll be able to see another crack in the wall, and another passageway on the map. Blow the hole in the wall to the left here, and keep moving through.

In the next area we need to send out the Beetle - there's a rope on the front of the giant gate here, on top of it, which will begin to open it. There's another rope switch to cut on the other side - guide the Beetle through the tunnel in the upper left to get through and open it. Keep making your way through - the lava spout blocking the path will die down if you wait. Guide the ball over the thin strip of lava, and you'll emerge back in the main room, with access to the other side of the bridge switch. Push it in, and the bridge will raise. Now you can access the next main room, at last.

Climbing The Slopes And Avoiding Boulders, Earth Temple - Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

skyward sword zelda earth temple guide walkthrough (5)

In this next room there will be a series of slopes you must climb, and boulders will roll down to trip you up. This first slope has boulders missing on the left side, allowing you to go through, and then you can jump into an alcove on the left side of the wall to avoid the next load of stones.

On the next slope, you can see a crawlspace to the right. Crawl through and dig up the soft dirt to your right. One is an air spout, which will carry you upwards. Go up this slope, and then from the balcony here, throw bombs onto the high part of the ramp, in hopes that they'll explode as they roll towards the vulnerable rocks lower down. Now you can return and use this new alcove to hide and avoid boulders as you climb the next slope.

Now we're almost at the top - climb the stairs and ramp to the left, and you'll find the boss key in a chest at the top. On your way down, a boulder will chase you - just run. At the bottom the boulder will launch and block the lava spout, unveiling the boss door, ripe for you to put the key into. Now you can fight Pyroclastic Fiend Scaldera. Easy, with this guide.
