Some of the quests in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are long and arduous, while some others are simple puzzles that require little thought. Gloom-Borne Illness is a quest you can begin in Kakariko Village, which lies somewhere in between.

When you first arrive in Kakariko Village, you'll notice that things have changed quite a bit since the previous game. The landscape is different, there are more people around, and the issues that the residents are facing are quite a bit more threatening this time around - such as that faced by the grandmother of the armour shop's proprietresses.

Updated May 26, 2023: We've updated this article to include a video walkthrough for the Gloom-Borne Illness side quest in Tears of the Kingdom.

How To Start Gloom-Borne Illness

Tears of the Kingdom - Gloom-Borne Illness quest

To start Gloom-Borne Illness, head to Enchanted, the armour shop in Kakariko Village. Talk to the woman behind the counter, who will tell you that the ridiculous prices they charge are due to the illness her grandmother suffers.

If the women you're speaking to is Claree, you'll have to go find Lasli, who will explain more about their grandmother's sickness. At night, she can be found sitting in the shelter just up the slope from the armour shop.

Speak to Lasli and she'll explain that her grandmother's sickness originated from the gloom from the chasm that opened up nearby and that she cannot eat anything other than porridge as a result. With this in mind, it's possible to come up with a solution - you need to make a bowl of porridge with anti-gloom properties.

Lasli will specifically mention some of the ingredients you need for this dish by name. The table below lists them and how to get them.

Ingredient

Location

Hylian Rice

These can both be purchased from the General Store in Hateno Village

Milk

Hyrule Herbs

Quite common in Hyrule Field and Hyrule Ridge

Sundelion

Mostly found on sky islands, but also in Hyrule Field and Eldin Canyon

Once you have one of each of these ingredients, simply cook them together with a cookpot or a Zonai Pot device. You'll get Sunny Veggie Porridge.

Return to Lasli with this dish in hand and talk to her to complete the quest.

For completing this quest, you'll receive a bowl of Energizing Veggie Porridge and the prices at Enchanted will reduce significantly. For reference, the full Stealth Set will now cost 1,800 rupees, while the Radiant Set will now cost 2,400 rupees.

After purchasing a single piece of equipment at Enchanted, you'll also receive the Sheikah Fabric for your Paraglider, which you can customise in Hateno Village.
