The overarching lore of The Legend of Zelda isn't exactly the most linear or fleshed out. The canonical order of the series has been established mostly based on guesses and references, and even then there are certain inconsistencies. And yet, there is a loose thread to tie it all together. With this in mind, Breath of the Wild players have been scouring Hyrule for clues ever since Tears of the Kingdom was announced.

Considering that it's essentially the same map of Hyrule, and assuming that Nintendo had at least a notion of a sequel, it's not farfetched to think that there may be some references to the upcoming game somewhere in BotW. Of course, there has been plenty of speculation based on the trailers, but some people prefer concrete proof.

One player seems to think they've found something, and posted their findings on Reddit (thanks, Dexerto). "Replaying BoTW in preparation for the release, noticed one of the 8 Gerudo heroines has an interesting emblem," wrote TheEggRoller, along with an image of Link next to one of the Gerudo Heroine statues. A tear-shaped emblem is present on this statue, along with a red background.

If you've been keeping up with the TotK trailers, you've probably seen the tear-shaped stones which certain characters possess. While we still don't know their significance, it looks like they're important plot devices. Interestingly, the trailer revealed that Ganondorf possessed a red-coloured Tear. This led some players to speculate that this statue has a connection with Ganondorf himself.

A number of comments seem to agree with this theory. The latest trailer showed that Ganondorf is in possession of a red Tear, and they theorize that this statue and emblem is a reference to the events that will take place in Tears of the Kingdom. However, not everyone agrees – there appear to be some who think that the colour and shape are just a coincidence.

"Probably because there's not much to make out of it. Sure, there's a symbol that looks like a tear. That's it, we don't have enough info to further build off of it, says JudetheDude21. You can go check it out for yourself, as TheEggRoller has marked its exact location too.

Considering the latest trailer is the last one we'll get before launch, it seems we're only going to find out the truth when Tears of the Kingdom finally launches on May 12. There have been plenty of fan theories, but it seems Nintendo is going to let us find out for ourselves.

One of the few things we do know about the game is that Link's latest adventure will commence "on one of the many mysterious floating islands that have suddenly appeared in the skies high above Hyrule."
