How To Dispense The Food In The Breeding Pits

the lord of the rings: gollum sits across from a lever in the breeding pits of mordor

When the gondola arrives at the Breeding Pits, follow the Breeder along the bridge until he stops. Pull the lever as he instructs, then continue along the path alone. At the end you'll come to a circular dead-end.

Stand on the grate at the center of the circle and jump up to reach to the platform above you. There, climb the wall to the top of the rickety structure and turn around. Jump to the swing bar and use it to reach the ledge against the wall.

Pull the lever directly in front of you, then climb the wall to the right. At the top, jump across to a platform that you can use to reach the swing bar high above. Shimmy to the left side of the bar and swing to the ledge across; your stamina will be nearly drained when you land, so let it recover.

Activate the feeder to the right, then go to the left side of the area and activate the one there as well. Facing the lever, look ahead and to the right; you'll see some platforms that you can reach by jumping. Climb up and crawl across the boards to reach the fourth feeder.

Look for some swing bars over the center of the area; use them to reach the climbing wall ahead and to the left. Take a left at the top to find and activate the final feeder; Gollum will automatically return to the bottom. Board the gondola and return to the barracks.

There isn't much else going on in the main area at this time, so return to your cell and finish out the day by the window. On your way up the ramp, you'll be able to examine the skulls above while nearby orcs discuss the Traitor's Mark.

If you covered for the Frail Man, then blackmailed him afterward in Chapter Two, there will be a piece of bread on the floor for you inside the cell.

How To Meet The Candle Man

When gameplay resumes, board the gondola to the left of the Cruel Woman's dais. You'll be taken to the Tower; follow Balrat down the corridor and to the left. When Balrat is called away, you can go to the opposite end of the lobby to see a painting of the Witch-King, or head straight up the ramp to meet with the Candle Man.

Try to open the door to the Candle Man's office, then run up the wall to the left to reach a tunnel that leads inside. Hop down onto the rafters, then to the floor. You might take a little bit of damage from the second drop, but not enough to merit wasting a heal.

Take the green bottle on the table across from the desk, then ring the bell on the balcony overlooking the gate. Next, go through the door behind the desk and eavesdrop on the Candle Man's conversation with the Mouth of Sauron. If you want, you can examine the odds and ends throughout the room; if you helped get the Witch freed from the mines, she'll be near the bookcases at the far end for a quick conversation.

Peek through the keyhole to the right of the wall map and wait for the Candle Man and the Mouth to stop talking; when the Mouth of Sauron leaves, the door will open, allowing you to approach the Candle Man.

The Candle Man will ask you to implicate someone in the destruction of the bridge. You can tell the truth, or blame the Mine Foreman. After the conversation, there will be a time skip.

How To Hatch The Bird

notes left by the previous bird keeper in the lord of the rings: gollum

Follow Balrat to the bird breeding hall; along the way, you'll see the Mouth of Sauron again, but Balrat won't let you follow him. Talk to the Candle Man, and he'll instruct you to hatch a bird egg. Take the blue egg from the cage near the keys, then place it in the pot to the left. Choose one of the Mormak pumps to color the egg; black, brown, or white. The color you choose will determine the color of the bird hatched, and slightly change some future dialogue, but is otherwise unimportant.

Next, you need to prepare the incubator by adding wood and pumping the bellows of the furnace. Each color egg requires a different level of heat; you can find notes from the old bird-keeper scrawled throughout the area:

Color

Hint Location

Firewood

Bellows Pumps

Black

Behind the cages near the keys.

2

3

Brown

In the alcove behind the incubation nest.

3

4

White

Behind the pillar in front of the furnace.

When the furnace is set according to the egg you've chosen, place the egg in the incubation nest and pull the nearby lever. If the combination is correct, a cutscene will trigger.

After your conversation with the Candle Man, you'll be dismissed back to your cell. You can stick around to listen to a conversation between the Candle Man and the Witch, or head straight for the gondola.
