While the game may seem complicated, you can make it slightly easier by following these combat tips. Before you know it, Sylas will be stealing magic and punishing Demacia like the freedom fighter he is.

Mixing Light And Heavy Attacks

Sylas uses light attacks against some enemies in The Mageseeker: A League Of Legends Story.

Sylas' combat style allows you to string together light and heavy attacks. How you chain these together will help out in different situations, so it's worth experimenting and seeing what works best for which enemies.

The Combo

When To Use It

Four light attacks

Use this to finish off enemies, attack faster ones quickly, or if you need to be ready to dodge attacks.

One light attack, three heavies

This maximizes the damage you do by throwing in a light attack before your strongest combo. Go with it for boss fights or when you find openings against enemies.

Two light attacks, two heavies

This one balances speed and damage, making it a solid choice if you don't know what the enemy plans to do next.

Three light attacks, one heavy

This one slightly favors speed over damage, so go with it if you're against new enemies and still need to learn their patterns.

Three heavy attacks

This deals tons of damage but has the slowest moves with the longest recovery. You won't use this one often unless an enemy resists physical attacks since light ones won't do much.

Sylas will also encounter allies, who'll give you new combos with bonus effects, such as leaving slowing fields. These combos can be powerful, especially if you make use of your enemy's weaknesses. Don't forget about the fundamentals, though.

Memorize Magic Strengths And Weaknesses

A chart showing the elemental weaknesses between the six spell types in The Mageseeker: A League Of Legends Story.

There are six types of magic in The Mageseeker, with each having an opposite type it is weak to:

  • Fire (red) and Ice (blue)
  • Nature (green) and Wind (gray)
  • Mystic (purple) and Storm (yellow)

To identify an enemy's type, simply lock onto them to see their type's symbol. If you use an enemy's magic type against them, they'll resist the damage. On the other hand, you'll deal additional damage if you use the opposite magic against them.

Some enemies are neutral, meaning they'll take the same damage regardless of type, unless they have a magic-blocking shield to negate it.

As you play through the game, consider these elements and bring the opposite ones when possible. Before you start a mission, the screen will let you know the common element types so that you can plan accordingly. You can also use checkpoints to change your spells if you want to try something different during a mission.

As you play through the game, you can unlock up to four spell slots to swap between your magic. Instead of bringing four of the same elements, you should bring four different options.

Prioritize Hijacking Magic Over Your Magic

Sylas fights various enemies in a building in The Mageseeker: A League Of Legends Story.

Sylas' key ability is to steal and use other peoples' magic against them. While you can bring a handful of spells with you, you should use your hijacked ones more often.

The hijacked spells offer multiple pros that make it better to use most of the time. For starters, using hijacked spells doesn't cost you mana, saving resources for when you really need them.

If you're up against multiple enemies, you can simply rotate through them, hijacking the next spell while your previous one is on cooldown.

Hijacking spells also lets you be much more adaptable – if you're lacking a spell type an enemy is weak to, there's likely one nearby that you can hijack, instead of relying on your own, suboptimal spells.

However, you should still use your mana when you have enough. Doing so can help you use magic in a pinch and survive different fights.

Stay On The Move

Sylas has his nature magic ready to use against an enemy in The Mageseeker: A League Of Legends Story.

Most fights will find you in an arena with enemies surrounding you. Instead of letting this happen, you must stay on the move while you fight them.

By kiting, baiting attacks, and pressing the advantage when suitable, your enemies will struggle to aim at you long enough to fire off their spells. Enemies will often stand still to cast spells before relocating to fire off some more, giving you time to move in and do some damage.

You can make the process simpler by running in circles around the map's perimeter. Don't get overly stuck in this strategy, though; don't be afraid to dodge out of the way or go toward the middle if an attack heads in your direction.

Take Advantage Of The Terrain While Utilizing Dashes

Sylas puts a pillar between him and an enemy in The Mageseeker: A League Of Legends Story.

Some areas will have different terrain you can use to deal with enemies, like walls and pillars. While they can get in your way and prevent you from moving, you can take advantage of the area to protect yourself.

For example, pillars can block enemy projectiles, giving you easily accessible cover. As fights can get hectic, having these brief moments of calm will allow you to reassess the battle and come up with new strategies before wading back in.

Creating those barriers can also work if you dash over gaps since most enemies can't overcome them. If you ever need to return to the enemy, you can grab them with your chains, pull yourself to them, and take them out.

Dashing can also help you control the space, whether it be by putting distance between yourself and enemies, or dodging attacks and quickly getting back in to counterattack. Be careful not to overdo it, though, as the cooldown on dashes could mean you accidentally dash right into a powerful attack.
