The Mortuary Assistant offers a spooky environment with all different kinds of scares. The best thing about this game is that each playthrough is different. You’ll be met with spooky entities, flickering lights, and lots of anxiety. You never know which scene will be triggered or when you’ll see a shadow lurking in the corner.

There are a couple of changes that could be made to this game to make it even better, though. While the game only has one developer, it came out very well. Here are a few things the developer could have done to make this game go from good to great!

7 Different Endings

Raymond in mortuary looking out the window after the second night and telling Rebecca that this will never end in the mortuary assistant

While this game does have multiple endings, a lot of them are similar to each other. For example, endings one and two are almost exactly the same, just with different dialogue. They both have the same concept, and are just too similar to each other.

It would be nice to see a different scene for the second ending. Maybe Rebecca could have another conversation with her grandmother about things that have been happening at work. It would work better towards Rebecca's character if she wasn't just talking to Raymond in almost every ending.

6 An Ending Where You Can Actually Leave

Rebecca in her car outside the mortuary

During your very first shift, a scene will be triggered where the body you are working on will sit up. At this point in time, Rebecca is so new that doesn't really believe that she is in danger of possession. She voices her concern, and you can actually make an effort to leave the mortuary.

Rebecca will try to start her car, but the transmission won't turn on, hinting that Raymond might have done something. That doesn't mean Rebecca can't walk, though. It would be interesting if Rebecca could leave on foot in the middle of her shift and have a special ending where she would get possessed along the way.

5 Let Vallery Out

Vallery in coffin

Vallery is a previous mortuary assistant that did not escape possession. It is revealed that Raymond is keeping her locked in the basement in a special coffin designed to keep the demon from escaping. There is a lock on the coffin, but what if you could let her out?

Obviously, she would be a danger to the world, and she would probably kill Rebecca and then go after Raymond. This would make for an interesting ending because it would bring something different to the table.

4 More About Rebecca’s Family

Rebecca's Mother on matress

Throughout the game, we get glimpses of Rebecca's dark life growing up. We learn that she was addicted to heroin at the age of fourteen, and her father was addicted at some point in his life as well. We also get a special scene where her mother is seen laying on a mattress, fully clothed and appearing to be passed out.

We don't really know where her mother is now, but we know that her father has long passed. The game would be more interesting with more scenes like this, so we can understand more about Rebecca as a character and what her life was like growing up.

3 More Environmental Interactions

Object on the floor thrown by demon

There are plenty of interactions that happen while you are playing the game, but there could be a lot more. Normally when spirits and demons are around in other games, they tend to throw a lot of things. Rarely are things thrown in this mortuary. Lights flickering and doors closing are all part of the game, but there should be more.

Maybe tools go flying out of Rebecca's hands just as she is beginning to work on a body. This would make it more difficult to work, but it would add anxiety to the atmosphere.

2 Different Burning Processes

Incinerator with body crawling

Whenever you burn a body, the cutscene remains the same. This will play no matter what ending you get. The body goes into the incinerator before the door is blown off. A body will crawl out and start moving towards you before being sucked back in.

It would be better to see different types of burning cutscenes. If Rebecca burns the wrong body or picks the wrong demon, a cutscene could play where the demon crawls out of the incinerator and actually makes it to her. Maybe other things catch on fire when the door is blown off.

1 Fuse Box

Fuse box in bathroom closet

In the very first demo of this game, you were able to collect fuses from the front desk. While you are in the mortuary, lights occasionally flicker or turn off completely. After all, it's not uncommon for spirits and demons to mess with power sources. It would add to the atmosphere if the lights were to go out permanently until the fuse box is fixed.

You could be given a flashlight at the start of your shift in case the lights go out. Imagine working on a body and all the lights go out — you’d have to find your way to the fuse box to restart it before you can continue doing your job.
