Ah, Disney, the company that captured the hearts of generations and made some of the pivotal films of our childhood. They're known for their feel-good films and family-friendly storylines. Many of us caught it in snippets or maybe wrote it off as a trick of the imagination, but Disney does slip in some adult humour and questionable symbolism from time to time. It's probably half the reason why the whole family can sit and enjoy them; the kids get to watch a seemingly innocent movie and the adults get the best of both worlds including all the subtle jokes and scenes. These moments are usually quick enough that many don't catch it, an Easter egg for those among us with hawk eyes. Some of them even stepped up and over the line, making many of us raise an eyebrow.

Not all of these are bad, and as I've said they provide much-needed entertainment for many a parent forced to sit and watch Frozen for the hundredth time in a row. A lot take some thought and inspection to even understand where they were trying to go, while some they leave out in the open to put a smirk on the faces of the masses. Rarely is it ever outrageous, usually keeping it to a sleight of hand in the editing room, but on the odd occasion they get a little daring, usually regretting it because the meticulous fans are sure to call you out every single time. Even drawing legal action on certain occasions they definitely don't shy away from a risk when it comes to humour.

12 Mushu's Creepy Side

via: Disney.Wikia.com

If you've watched Mulan before then you're bound to know the comical dragon sidekick Mushu, voiced by Eddie Murphy. Considering the voice actor and the occasional tongue in cheek humour of the Disney writers, you can safely assume some risky lines got by. However, they did kick up the creep to a new level when Mushu starts describing his all-powerful abilities and tells Mulan he can "see straight through her armour" while looking at her chest, before receiving a swift slap to the face. Not so subtle, but harmless enough to pass by with a few laughs. It's not like Mushu was ever the innocent type from the start of the film; at least they took the bite out of it with some lighthearted jokes.

11 Bo Peep Gets A Little Aggressive

via: Geeksofdoom.com

Woody and Bo Peep were the star couple of the Toy Story series, with Bo Peep being the caring, nurturing figure that is a little more than forward in her advances for Woody throughout the films, pulling him in with her cane and delivering risque one liners that put a blush on even my cheek. While they're mostly innocent attempts, in one instance, after Woody delivers one of his signature acts of courage, she asks "what if i get someone else to watch the sheep tonight?" I'm sure I don't have to go into too much explanation on that one. This sends Woody into the moronic giggle a lot of us know when caught off-guard by a pretty lady. Oh, Woody, if only we could all be so smooth.

10 Cars' Special Truck Stop

via: tlum.ru

Lightning McQueen embraced the stereotypical rock star lifestyle, as many of us would, decked out in sponsors and acting brash. While this isn't the recommended path to take, it's sure to come with a few benefits, and being a jerk is usually one of the allowances we give to the famous. While McQueen and his driver Mac are heading to his rematch in California, the driver wants to pull over and rest at the "Top Down Truck Stop," capped off with a "convertible waitresses" sign underneath. Only spotted by a few, as it's quite a brief shot in the film, it makes you think a little before you understand the intention behind the sign. Who would have thought the Hooters business plan sneaks into even the Disneyverse?

9 Flower Gets A Little Too Excited

Via: pictures.zimbio.com

Flower is the shy, anxious sidekick of our favorite cartoon deer, Bambi. He's cripplingly shy when it comes to his love interests, often running away or hiding when anything of that sort comes around, until the spring when he finally becomes a young adult. Finally, he talks to a female skunk in the spring (mating season for the rest of the animal kingdom) and as soon as a few minutes passes, he stiffens up and turns bright red... remind you of anything? It's definitely a scene that could be overlooked until it's put into context for you.

8 The Genie's Off-Brand Humour

Via: lasertimepodcast.com

Another Disney character voiced by a professional comedian, only this one famously improvised most of his lines for the film. Robin Williams plays the genie who once again saves Aladdin's life, then goes into a short speech about how much he appreciates Aladdin. Pretty cute scene, right? Until he then goes on to say "not that I want to pick out curtains or anything," shooting down the idea that he could be implying a relationship with him. It's subtle enough that the kids can't catch on and the adults get a laugh.

7 Aladdin And His "Friends"

Via: disney.wikia.com

In the Aladdin song "One Jump Ahead" he's running through the streets of Agrabah, trying to escape the officials after stealing a loaf of bread. He then stumbles into a "parlour" and gets confronted by three gorgeous girls and their aggressive manager. Kicking him out because is poor and can't afford their "services," this setup is strikingly similar to how a different type of business runs. It's further confirmed when he returns to the city as Prince Ali and they are swooning over him because of his stature and wealth. Even looking at their name, "The Harem Girls," it's pretty evident what they were trying to get across. Disney teaches you many life lessons throughout their collection, and this may be one of the most important for the people who watched. Be careful who you fall for!

6 Zootopia Moonlighting In A Different Business

Via: disney.wikia.com

Zootopia was one of the more recent films to be released by Disney, and had the sense to come with a few current references. The one that sticks out the most is the striking resemblance to the hit show Breaking Bad. As Judy and Nick (the crime-fighting duo) research a case, they stumble across a sheep cooking up a blue liquid in a test tube dressed in a yellow jumpsuit. They take it even farther when you realize the names of the two characters are Jesse and Woolter, basically mirroring the substance-cooking duo in the TV show. Kids are starting to know about adult content earlier nowadays, thanks to things like Facebook and your Twitter, so I'm sure that this didn't fly over too many heads.

5 The Rescuers' Dark Past

via: guff.com

Probably the most incriminating example of Disney crossing the line was the home video release of The Rescuers. When the main couple Bernard and Bianca are soaring the skies on top of their feathery friend, they cross a building. In that building's window was the image of an unclothed woman, seen about as clear as an image came at the time of the film's release. Although you wouldn't be able to spot it on a normal viewing of the film, if you paused at the wrong (or right, depending on how you look at it) moment you could see it clear as day. It later had a lawsuit thrown at it, and they had to recall and reanimate the film because of it. It's one of Disney's biggest mishaps in one of their most successful classics.

4 Pinocchio And The Questionable Choice

Via: haikudeck.com

Pinocchio is the misbehaving, lovable puppet who just wants to be a real boy. Except, that is, when he travels down to Pleasure Island, where you see the young puppet smoking a cigar. But is that really what it is? It's bad enough that you see a little kid using this, but then Lampwick encourages him to take a big "drag" and you see the puppet turn into a little green, if a little embellished. Eyes low and a little out of it, he tries to play pool with no success until Jiminy Cricket ruins the party and tells him to stop. He leaves in a huff when Pinocchio refuses, and storms out before you see Lampwick pouring what seems to be a drink out of two barrels. Kids using these substances and the obvious rebellion against his conscience makes for one of the more controversial scenes we've seen out of the production.

3 Familial Love Slithers Into Hercules

via: fanpop.com

This one takes a little more knowledge or research to get the context, but Hercules, as he's recapping his date with Megara, talks about the play they went to go and see, joking and comparing his issues to the god Oedipus. For those in the dark, Oedipus had an unnatural attraction to his mother and ended up killing his father to then go on and have four (uh, magnificent?) kids with her. This leads to the term Oedipus Complex that applies to anyone who lusts after their parent. While an effective way to make the point that he's got nothing to worry about, and maybe the most subtle way of making a dirty joke, ultimately it's a bit cringy when you think about it.

2 What's In There, Alice?

via: flickr.com

The lazy caterpillar who was of little help to Alice, bar the few gems of advice he eventually gave, was seen smoking the entire time you see him throughout the movie. There's a bit of a back and forth on what type of thing he's actually ingesting. He's seen sitting in front of leaves and the use of his apparatus is usually for tobacco, yet when you see the character's personality throughout the film he tends to show the signs of a different kind of smoke. He's usually laying on his back, talking very slowly, and acting pretty aloof considering the situations he's in. It's almost a callback to characters like Gandalf, who many have also questioned... what is actually in his pipe?

1 Feelin' Good With The Good Dinosaur

Via: ign.com

One of the most recent releases from Disney, The Good Dinosaur brought back that feel-good story that we need on our down days. Saying that, it does take a sharp turn into the psychedelic quickly when they both eat some strange berries lying on the floor. A quick giggle and some low-hanging eyes later, and they're shot off into a rather fun-looking hallucination where their bodies swap and the eye count skyrockets. It only lasts for a short while and when it eventually wears off they're left a little worse for wear. Most kids don't get introduced to the psychedelic until they're in high school, until now. If you can find a lesson in there, it would be don't eat strange berries off the ground, but to be honest they didn't exactly make it look like a bad time.
