Seemingly at random, Interplay Entertainment has announced that a re-release for the cult classic Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is not only happening but will be available tomorrow as a digital download. Running $30, this updated port of the 2001 action RPG title includes 4K visuals (on PS4 Pro/Xbox One X and above), local co-op support, and the entire campaign from the original version. Despite the trailer stating so, the game does not have a native PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version.

If you don't have any consoles, fear not. Interplay has confirmed that a PC and mobile release of Dark Alliance is scheduled for later in 2021. This will mark the first time that PC players will have the chance to experience this unique take on BioWare's classic RPG series.

More like a straight re-release instead of a remaster, it's a bit odd to see a lack of online co-op support for this. I know the original came out in an era when online was hardly a thing on consoles, but a spiritual successor in the form of Champions of Norrath not only ran on an updated version of Dark Alliance's engine, it also had online co-op for four players. Maybe a future patch can add the feature down the line.

If this port sells well, there's a chance we could see its sequel, Dark Alliance 2, get re-released as well. This latest port is likely happening to drum up hype for Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, a similar action RPG in the vein of Dark Alliance that is set to release next month. The jury's still out on that particular game, but I could definitely go for more action RPGs.
