The Outer Worlds is a space game full of choices, and one of the most important decisions you have to make is which weapon type to use during your adventure across the Halcyon System. There are many different types of ranged weapons; however, melee weapons are also a viable option.

The melee weapons in The Outer Worlds come in two types, one-handed and two-handed. If you want to create a melee build, then there are a few tips you should follow to maximize your character's effectiveness.

10 Make A Decision Between One-Handed And Two-Handed Weapons

Although it may seem basic, choosing between using one-handed and two-handed melee weapons is something you should do immediately after starting a playthrough. If you don't choose early, then you may have trouble switching between the two types when you collect new weapons since using each type of melee weapon feels very different.

You may prefer using both types of melee weapons depending on the situation, and that's a good strategy as well. However, if you plan to focus on a specific type of melee weapon, then you shouldn't switch between one-handed and two-handed weapons throughout your playthrough. You also eventually have to decide which type of melee weapon to level up in the Skills menu, so their damage won't be equal unless you invest in both weapon types.

9 Incorporate Stealth Into Your Melee Build

Stealth is a mechanic that can work well with every type of build, regardless of if you're using melee or ranged weapons. However, melee-stealth hybrids are particularly fun because they add a way to defeat your enemies from the shadows without anybody ever hearing a gunshot.

Patience is a requirement for stealth, so only use it if you're willing to wait for the perfect opening. If you would prefer to rush straight into combat, then it's harder to incorporate stealth into a melee build.

8 Choose Felix As Your Companion

All of the companions in The Outer Worlds are interesting; however, Felix specifically uses melee weapons more than the other followers in the Halcyon System.

Felix is also a good choice as a follower if you enjoy humor because he's one of the most light-hearted companions. Additionally, you can travel with a second companion who prefers guns to gain diversity in weapons for your team.

7 Collect The Mandibular Rearranger Weapon

The Mandibular Rearranger is a Science one-handed melee weapon. It has a unique ability that slows down any enemy that it hits, and it can completely freeze them if you hit an enemy multiple times.

You can acquire the Mandibular Rearranger inside a blue safe in the house on the right-side on Scylla. This weapon is incredibly fun to use, and it's one of the best melee weapons in The Outer Worlds.

6 Use Heavy Armor

Heavy Armor grants more protection; however, it doesn't provide as many unique abilities as lighter armor. If you're going to be on the front-line of combat, then you need to have a lot of damage resistance to protect against attacks.

If you're fighting with melee weapons, then you'll probably end up taking a lot of damage from both ranged and melee enemies, so Heavy Armor is usually the best choice. However, medium and light armor can still work well with a melee-stealth hybrid build.

5 Defeat The Weakest Enemy First

Since you take damage from both ranged and melee enemies in close combat, you need to reduce the overall damage you receive. If you defeat the weakest enemies first, then there will be only a couple of enemies attacking you overall, and it'll be easier to dodge attacks from the hardest-hitting enemies.

Since it would take more time to reduce the health of stronger enemies, focusing on the weak characters guarantees that there will be no weaker attacks coming your way for the majority of each battle.

4 Unlock The Toughness Perk

The Toughness perk increases your health by 50 percent. During combat with a melee build, you'll take a lot of damage since you're fighting up-close with your enemies, which means that you may need extra health to survive.

That's where the Toughness perk comes in; it grants you a lot of extra health so that you can survive more attacks in combat. Toughness is one of the first perks you should unlock regardless of which type of melee weapon you use.

3 Sell All The Ammo You Collect To Merchants

Regardless of your weapon type, you'll collect a lot of ammo in The Outer Worlds through looting containers and enemies. However, only melee builds have the advantage of not using any ammo, which means that you can sell any ammo that you don't use to merchants.

You can also sell ranged weapons that you don't need to merchants if you aren't going to use them, although it never hurts to keep a few ranged weapons and a supply of ammo just in case.

2 Collect The Prismatic Hammer Weapon

There are lots of powerful two-handed melee weapons in The Outer Worlds; however, the Prismatic Hammer is the strongest because of its unique ability. The Prismatic Hammer is a Science weapon that can cycle through different damage types.

If you regularly fight many types of enemies, then the Prismatic Hammer is perfect for your build since each enemy has different resistances, so you can adjust the hammer accordingly. You can obtain the Prismatic Hammer on the Groundbreaker behind the room with the beds for the Stevedores. You have to enter a small passageway above the beds and then defeat a few enemies. Then loot a keycard from the enemies and open up the locked door nearby to find a room with the Prismatic Hammer inside it.

1 Unlock The Harvester Perk

The Harvester perk is one of the best abilities you can unlock in The Outer Worlds. This perk restores 15 percent of your health every time you defeat an enemy.

You may need the extra health regeneration that the Harvester perk grants if you're using melee weapons since enemies can defeat you easier when you're close to them. This perk is also great for other builds; however, it's especially useful for fast-paced melee combat.
