First revealed way back in 2018 during The Game Awards, The Pathless is finally gearing up to hit the market. Annapurna and Giant Squid's mysterious open-world adventure game will be available on November 12 for PC, Apple Arcade, PlayStation 4 and – PlayStation 5.

Matt Nava, Creative Director for Giant Squid, made the announcement today on the official PlayStation Blog. "I'm excited to announce that you will be able to play The Pathless on your new PlayStation 5 the minute you get your hands on it." The PS5 already had a robust launch lineup, but it's great to see the inventive new IP added to the list.

Nava went on to share a few images from The Pathless, showcasing sweeping mountain ranges, monolithic statues, and mysterious ruins. There's still a lot we don't know about the title – and for good reason. The Pathless is billed as an adventure game that is "brimming with mystery and atmosphere." That means the less you know before loading it up, the better your experience will be.

However, there is one thing we know for certain. The Pathless won't have an in-game mini map. Instead, you'll use your Spirit Vision to find areas of interest and navigate the open-world. The team has gone to incredible lengths to make sure each environment is unique, allowing you to use different structures and landmarks as navigational tools.

Nava said, "With no map, we knew it would be important for every building, every landmark, every grove and vista to stand out and serve as a memborable spot to help you find your own path through this land shrouded in darkness." It's a bold approach – considering all the quest markers and glowing yellow paths seen in most titles – and we're curious to see how it all comes together.

Giant Squid hopes that the removal of these features will allow the player to fully explore the environment and discover all the secrets hidden throughout the world. The team made sure that going off the beaten path is rewarded, and that there's plenty of mysterious content to explore even if you get lost.

The Pathless will be available as a launch title for PlayStation 5 on November 12.
