You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who actually still cares about Google Stadia anymore, but a new report has revealed Google had some pretty big ambitions for the platform before it was scaled back. It has been reported that Supermassive's teen slasher game The Quarry and the recently revealed sci-fi shooter High on Life were reportedly intended to be first-party Google Stadia titles before they found other publishers.
This revelation comes from a report by Axios Gaming, which claims that both titles started out development as Stadia titles and were being made specifically to draw people to the platform. A report from earlier this year suggested that Google has given up on trying to make the platform successful, and projects originally intended for the system seem to have jumped ship.
Axios claims to have spoken to representatives of both games, although neither had anything to say about what platform the games were originally designed for. Supermassive explains that it was looking for a publishing partner "as the project came to completion” and was happy to work with 2K, but High on Life developer Squanch Games simply replied with a list of platforms the game will actually launch on. Google itself didn't comment on the report.
As for when you'll be able to play these games, The Quarry is actually available to play right now as it launched earlier this month for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. On the other hand, High on Life is yet to release as it was just revealed during Xbox's summer showcase earlier this month. The game is in development at Squanch Games, an indie developer set up by Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland. We don't have a specific release date for the game just yet, but it was revealed to be an Xbox console exclusive that will launch in October later this year.
