The Sims 4 base game is continually being updated and shows no signs of stopping. The latest addition at the time of writing is scenarios. These are a new way to bring goals into the sandbox game and give you something to aim for. Each one gives you a backstory and an ending - the main story is up to you.
At the time of writing there are two permanent scenarios, and limited time scenarios will be added alongside these. Each scenario is accessed in the same way but has a different goal. Here's how they work.
How Do You Start A Scenario In The Sims 4?
Scenarios are a new option added to the Sims 4 main menu below new game and load game. Simply select this option and you'll be given the choice to play the scenario in either a new save, or an existing one.
It should be noted that while you can play scenarios in existing saves, you will have to create a new family from scratch, rather than being able to apply the scenario goals to an existing household.
What Sims 4 Scenarios Are Available?
There are currently two permanent scenarios, Making Money and Finding Love After A Breakup. The first focuses on amassing simoleons, while the second requires you to find love again after a nasty breakup.
Each scenario gives you the following:
- A Brief Backstory - This outlines the scenario's circumstances and aims.
- A CAS Requirement - This specifies if you need a certain number of Sims, specific ages, etc.
- A Goal - This is what you need to achieve in order to complete the scenario.
These change depending on the scenario.
Do Scenarios Have Requirements?
Requirements appear to be related to the Sims in a household. For instance, in the breakup scenario you'll need to create two Sims who are unrelated to each other. Other scenarios may require Sims of different ages or differing numbers. This is because the family you create will be the one that plays out the scenario goals.
Even if you have a family that meets the criteria, you will need to create a new household to apply a scenario to them.
The family can then go into any save you have, or a brand new world. Currently, they start with with regular household funds and can be placed anywhere in the world. This may change with future scenarios.
What Is The Making Money Scenario?
The Making Money scenario has no requirements in terms of households. You can have a single Sim, or a full family. There are also no restrictions on age, gender, or traits. This is essentially a very simple rags to riches scenario.
Once you've created your family they will be given the usual starting funds. However, the difference from normal gameplay is that once you've purchased either an empty lot or a home then your household funds will be reduced to zero. Your goal is then to make one million simoleons. Simple.
Scenarios aren't designed to add huge boundaries so there are no limitations on how you make your money. You can work, craft, sell, or even steal. As long as you get your hands on that cash.
For a fully authentic experience you can start on an empty lot, or if you want to maximise your chances you can select the largest house you can afford, or even create a bespoke option before you begin.
What Is The Finding Love After A Break Up Scenario?
This scenario is a little more complex as it requires two Sims and will add a backstory to their relationship. You'll need to create two Sims who are Young Adults or older and are not related to each other.
As with the other scenario you'll begin with regular starting funds and must find a house. However, rather than this scenario adjusting your bank balance it changes your relationship status.
Once you've moved in you'll discover that, regardless of gender, the two Sims you created have just broken up with each other. They have sad debuffs and a very hostile relationship.
You now have a choice of three options. You can reunite them, so they become soulmates again. You can help them become best friends. Finally, you can allow the to move on and have them become soulmates with other people.
Will There Be More Sims 4 Scenarios?
We know that there will be limited time scenarios coming soon but are currently unsure if there will more permanent scenarios added to the game. However, any scenarios that are added will likely be in the same format of applying restrictions on a household then offering an end goal.
Scenarios are designed to guide gameplay, not dictate it, and it will be interesting to see what else appears in the game in the future.
