The death flower is now considered a staple of The Sims franchise. While it isn't easy for your sim to get their hands on one of these dead blooms, the rewards it brings are worth the effort.
You can now use the death flower in different ways to affect the fate of your sim or those around you. It can even be used on vampires, something which is incredibly rare. We take a look at where you can find the flower, how to cheat the death flower with a cheat, the differences between this and its predecessor, and what uses it has in The Sims 4.
9 The Death Flower In The Sims 3
The death flower entered the franchise back in The Sims 3 when it was acquired by being grown from either an unknown special seed or a death flower seed. There were many different ways to obtain these seeds including fishing, rummaging in trash, exploring the catacombs, and winning a guitar duel with the Grim Reaper.
Acquiring one was always random and worked in a similar way how Cow Plant seeds are found in The Sims 4. However, the unknown special seeds weren't always death flowers. They could also be plasma fruit, money trees, flame fruits, or life fruits. This meant that although the unknown seeds were often found in graveyards, the death flowers themselves remained reasonably rare.
8 The Death Flower In The Sims 4
The death flower didn't actually enter the game until October 1, 2014, a month after the game's initial release. This update, known as patch 5, also added ghosts to the game, along with the Ambrosia recipe and the Star Wars costumes.
The update was mostly supernatural-themed with the spooky station also added to the game at this point, along with some new eye colors including purple, and one of the staple cheats of builders everywhere, the hidden objects cheat.
7 Where To Find The Death Flower
In The Sims 4, the death flower is much rarer and more difficult to find than it was in The Sims 3. The chances of finding it in the world are very, very slim and you'll need to acquire it by grafting using the gardening skill.
Currently, it seems that Sims are unable to find the plant by fishing or rummaging in the trash, despite dumpster diving being added to the game in the Eco Lifestyle expansion.
6 How To Graft A Death Flower
The first thing you'll need to do in order to obtain a death flower is level your gardening skill to level 5. At this point, you'll be able to take cuttings from plants and graft them onto other plants to create hybrids.
- First, you'll need to graft an apple (found in starter seed packets) with a cherry (found on trees near the Landgrabb lot) to grow pomegranates.
- You'll also need to graft a lily and a snapdragon, which can both be found near the Goths home and by the commercial district of Willow Creek, to grow an orchid.
- Finally, you need to graft together the pomegranate and the orchid to grow a death flower.
5 How To Cheat To Get A Death Flower
If this process is too much hassle you can also cheat to get a death flower.
- First, you'll need to hit ctrl, shift, and c simultaneously to open the cheat menu. Console users should press all four shoulder buttons simultaneously.
- This should show a box in the top left corner to enter cheats into.
- Next, enter testingcheats on or testingcheats true into the box, and you should see a message that says cheats enabled.
- You'll now need to use the buy debug cheat code which is bb.showhiddenobjects
Once this is done, type death flower into the build, mode search bar, and it will appear, ready to be placed into your game. This will be the actual flower, rather than a plant that needs to be grown.
4 How To Save A Life With A Death Flower
The Grim Reaper is fond of the bloom and is prepared to exchange it in order for extended life. However, unlike in The Sims 3 where dying with one in your inventory passed it on to Grim, in The Sims 4, another Sim has to do this task.
You'll need a live sim to take the flower to Grim and offer it to him while making a plea for the dead sim's life. This makes using it to save yourself incredibly tricky if you don't have a large household.
3 How To Make Ambrosia With A Death Flower
If you fail with pleading for your Sims life, then there is another way to return them to the mortal realm using the death flower. However, it is going to take a while.
First, your Sim will need to cook. A lot. You'll need to be level ten in both regular and gourmet cooking. This unlocks the ambrosia recipe.
Then, alongside your death flower, you'll need a Potion of Youth, which costs 1500 satisfaction points in the rewards store, and an Angelfish, which can be caught in any river in Willow Creek.
Once you have these ingredients in your inventory or refrigerator you can make ambrosia. Then you'll need the ghost of the sim you want to bring to life to eat it, and their body will be restored.
2 How To Use The Death Flower As A Scent
If you have level nine flower arranging from the Seasons expansion, then you can use death flowers to scent flower arrangements. This will add the "scent of death" buff to them, meaning anyone given this bouquet as a gift will instantly age up when they smell it.
If an elder is given the bouquet then they will instantly shuffle off this mortal coil. It's also the only way you can age up a vampire, although it won't kill an elder vampire.
1 Selling The Death Flower
The death flower plant will produce a yield of one plant per day. This will be worth from 240 simoleons to 667 simoleons. You can harvest or sell death flowers in the same way as any other plant.
