The focus of The Sims 4 Dream Home Decorator is a brand new interior design career, as well as a large range of new home furniture that comes with it. This unique game pack is focused on home decoration and this is shown in the collection of items it contains. While there is some new clothing, the majority of the contents are build and buy items.
We break down what you can expect to find in the pack, including the clothing options and new modular furniture options, so you can decide if Dream Home Decorator is worth the money for your playstyle.
Home Essentials
The first thing you'll notice when looking at the new items is that the range of rooms they cover is huge. You can pretty much furnish the interior of an entire house just from the furniture in this pack. The only essential items your Sims would need to survive that aren't here are a toilet and fridge, and the base game has plenty of those.
Lounge furniture, beds, sofas, desks, tables, chairs, rugs, even new kitchen units. All of these are included in the pack along with lighting, clutter, artwork, and even a kid's play tent. Exterior items such as windows, fences, and for some reason flooring, are all absent, although there are a couple of interior doors.
Interior Design Career
The main focus of the pack is the brand new interior design career. This allows your Sim to become an interior designer and undertake jobs for other Sims. They'll be able to pick different design-based tasks, from redesigning a room to adding an extension and try to surprise their clients, in a good way.
The career involves chatting to other Sims, re-designing their specified, room or floor to their liking, and within budget, then revealing the result. It's like Extreme Home Makeover but smaller scale, and without the bus.
Modular Sofas
Something that has been on many builders' wish lists for a long time is modular sofas and this pack finally brings them into the game. There are two different designs, a plain modern pattern, and a more textured version with wooden edges, and each comes with a range of swatches.
Both sets of swatches match and there are many different pieces making up the modular sofa including three corner options, one-armed and armless sections, chaise lounges, and more. The combination options are huge and the pieces snap together easily and move as one sofa.
Modular Shelving
As well as modular sofas you'll also find modular shelving. Once again there are two swatches for this, with one option having rounded corners and the other square. Each version contains a mixture of drawers, hangers, shelves, and several different sized units, all of which can be matched together.
The base swatches for wood types and neutral colors are the same, then each version also has some unique colored options as well. You'll be able to snap units together and use them in almost any room, especially when combined with the new clutter items that include hanging clothes and shoes.
New Appliances
Another flexible furniture addition is the new under counter stoves and tabletop hobs, as well as the tabletop oven. While you cannot place the hob on top of the stove, unless you use the move objects cheat, you can use the counter above it. You can also use the tabletop oven to cook a variety of dishes.
The modern and more retro feeling options fit any style, as do the different types of stove. Separating them out offers more options for kitchen design and allows for more flexibility in any size of space.
Bunk Beds
The free base game update that came with this pack offers everyone a plain metal bunk bed as well as a wooden one. Both can be used as bunks or as loft beds with other furniture underneath them. Dream Home Decorator expands on this by adding four more bunk bed options.
The modular furniture in this pack also enhances these beds, offering dressers, desks, and chairs that match perfectly and give smaller bedrooms a more unique style.
Casual Clothing
While clothing isn't a major feature of this pack there are some options available. Most of these are practical yet smart options, including pinafore dresses, smart-casual tops, skirts, and trousers. There are also some more paint-splattered options, for those who want to look like they went the extra mile with their interior design.
As you likely expect by now, most options are orientated towards adult feminine styles, although there are a couple of male options, and some kids tops.
New Hairstyles And Accessories
Alongside the new clothing, there are also some new hairstyles, although again these are limited since the pack's focus is on interior design. You'll find a braided style, a short crop, a long option, and the now obligatory shaggy male crop. The braids and crop are also available for children and the braids come with and without baby hairs at the front.
These are complemented by new plain thick hoop earrings, and a two-string necklace. Both have a few plain swatches so they will match most things.
