The Sims franchise has officially surpassed over $5 billion in revenue, according to a new report from EA.

Electronic Arts' CEO Andrew Wilson announced the impressive revenue news during the company's recent Q2 earnings call. The report also detailed that the number of monthly players for the popular simulation game increased by 4o% year-on-year. In the 2019 fiscal year, The Sims 4 had grown 35%. The company predicts that the number will continue to grow in the future.

This latest report is just another threshold mark for EA's lucrative simulation games. Last December, EA's simulation games collectively crossed the one billion dollar mark in lifetime revenue earnings.

Wilson commented on the groundbreaking milestone for The Sims games, saying, “The Sims 4 also continues to be an incredible long term live service with a growing audience. Monthly average players were up more than 40% year-over-year in The Sims 4, and engagement across the franchise has led The Sims to surpass $5 billion in lifetime sales." He then briefly discussed future ambitions for the game, stating, “The Sims continues to be one of the great franchises in gaming and we have plans to bring new experiences to its amazing players for a long time to come.”

Those numbers are likely to continue to grow, especially given recent events. The upcoming The Sims 4: Discover University expansion pack is scheduled for release next month, and given the anticipation surrounding that pack, sales are likely to be high. EA has also just announced its partnership with Steam, which means even more fans will be able to have easy access to The Sims titles.

The Sims is a series of simulation video games by developer Maxis and published by EA for PC and console devices. The game series first began in 2000 with the release of The Sims, which became instantly popular and profitable. Since the first game, there have been three sequels - The Sims 2, The Sims 3, and the current The Sims 4 - with a fifth installment rumored to be in the works. Other spinoff games, such as The Sims Online, The Sims Stories, and The Sims Medieval also make up the highly lucrative franchise.
