The following ranked list includes conventional dungeons for 5 players along with raids for 10, 20 or 40 people, which are only available at the max level. We're including content that was in vanilla WoW and scheduled for release in Classic WoW at a later phase.

10 The Temple of Atal'Hakkar

Sunken Temple Interior Entrance

More commonly known as the Sunken Temple, this is one of the lower level dungeons on our list, with a level bracket of 44, but that doesn't mean it's one of the easiest. There's also plenty for you to do in this dungeon once you're 60. The design of ST is what gets it mixed reviews, with some players enjoying the maze-like interior and gloomy facades and others hating it. Either way, this dungeon is worth a few visits, as it has some impressive loot, fun boss fights, and compelling lore that connects players to the later raid of Zul'Gurub, which took both raids and dungeons to a whole other level.

9 Stratholme

This instance is actually split into two parts, Living and Dead, and both tell a tragic story that started in Warcraft III. The nicknames don't make a lot of sense as both "sides" are overrun with Scourge and their various undead minions, but only the Living side has the Scarlet Bastion. As much as we don't like them, we have to admit that the Scarlet Crusade is made up of living people, and at least they hate the Scourge as much as we do, or at least that's the prevailing wisdom. Both sides are designed for the same level bracket, 58 and up, although you can get in and enjoy grinding Argent Dawn rep as early as level 48.

8 Lower Blackrock Spire

This isn't the only dungeon on the list that you can break into two parts, but it is the only one that's a direct stepping stone to later raiding. Many of the quests you complete in Lower Blackrock Spire involve grinding rep with the Hydraxian Waterlords or taking care of some problems your faction, Alliance or Horde, has with the Blackrock Spire bosses. Pay close attention to the gear that drops here, as these high-level pieces are required for later raids like Molten Core and Onyxia's Lair.

7 Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj

The world event that leads up to the opening of this dungeon is called the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj and is the real epic part of this adventure. It involves literally everyone on the server, both Horde and Alliance, working together to gather resources and prepare for a battle against the Old Gods themselves. The raid itself is similar to Zul'Gurub, and although it's not as lush or colorful, it mimics the same outdoor design and only requires 20 people as opposed to 40. Considering what an adventure you have to go on just to get in, it better be a good raid.

6 Zul'Gurub

Dungeons like Zul'Furrak and the Sunken Temple are related to Zul'Gurub in Azerothian lore. One of the more memorable quest chains in the game starts in the Troll ruins of the Hinterlands and after some strange twists and turns, ends up right here, in vanilla World of Warcraft's first 20-player outdoor raid. That means you can ride your mount through the raid and complete the run with only 20 people as opposed to 40. The Zul'Gurub raid is expected to roll out in Classic WoW in Phase 4 when we can face the fearsome god Hakkar the Soulflayer once again.

5 Scholomance

One of the best things about Scholomance in the Western Plaguelands is that it's based on a real place. There's a lot of great lore surrounding the island of Caer Darrow along with some great quests, regardless of your faction.

Other great things about it include the sweet gear drops, some of which are statistically better than the items that you see in raids, and some of the first boss encounters that include powers like Teleport and Mind Control, which prepare you for much tougher fighting dynamics in other endgame raids and dungeons.

4 Upper Blackrock Spire

The first raid on our list, this is one of the most accessible with a group requirement of 10 people. Upper Blackrock Spire is intended to be the natural progression from Lower Blackrock Spire, which is a regular five-player dungeon in the same location. Blackrock Spire is intended to be a 10-person raid that trains players on the quirks that make raids different from dungeons. Some of the quests you finish in Lower Blackrock Spire finish as part of a raid in Upper Blackrock Spire and are part of the attunement process to enter another notorious raid, the Lair of Onyxia.

3 Molten Core

Molten Core is legendary for several reasons, such that it was completed in a single week and is the first real raid that most players experience. The interior isn't that memorable, sure, but the boss fights and loot drops are stellar. Most of the players that run MC go in with pre-raid gear and come out with a full Tier 1 set. Well, not after your first run, but even the trash in here drops purples on a regular basis. That's the main reason to run MC on a regular basis, to get the gear to run tougher dungeons and raids down the road, like Naxxramas and Onyxia's Lair. No wonder Molten Core is so popular.

2 Blackrock Depths

Ah, the notorious BRD. It's one of the biggest, toughest, most confusing, and most rewarding dungeons in MMORPG history, let alone in Azeroth. It's part of the vast complex of various raids and dungeons that make up Blackrock Mountain. You can get into this dungeon as early as level 48 and keep running it after you hit 60. You may not be interested in the gear at that point, but the dungeon is still home to several interesting quests, treasures, traps, NPCs, and even a bustling tavern. The Grim Guzzler is always worth a visit.

1 Naxxramas

We admit this entry is an ambitious one. Naxxramas isn't expected to be out until Phase 6, but in vanilla WoW it was a notoriously tough raid and the last one that was added to the vintage game. It's the home of an accompanied a world event, the Scourge Invasion, which was intended to mimic the Corrupted Blood Incident of 2005 but without the apocalyptic fervor. Naxramus requires attunement, like most raids, and this one is fairly simple, to be Honored with the Argent Dawn. It's still popular in modern retail WoW, where it floats over Northrend, within sight of the Lich King's Palace.
