Geralt always needs a steel and silver sword on hand to kill the monsters he comes across. You'd be surprised how much of a difference it can make in combat to have the best of the best. GosuNoob compiled an excellent guide to the best weapons and armor in the game; we narrowed it down to the top swords specifically for you.

Updated by Madison Lennon on April 21, 2020: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains an incredibly popular roleplaying game across multiple platforms. If you haven't played in a while, or you're looking for a way to diversify your latest playthrough, consider checking out some of these rare swords.

We decided to refresh the list with some more great selections. It should make chopping through giant monsters a breeze when you have the right steel or silver sword equipped. Some of these swords are not only rare but very powerful.

15 Winter's Blade

Geralt 2

Winter's Blade is a surprisingly powerful sword that you'll receive in Skelliege from Crach an Craite if you complete the appropriate quests. It is rumored to have been forged from dragon fire in Mahakam.

It once belonged to King Erlend Stonefist and has been part of the Clan Craite for centuries. You'll need to do the Brothers in Arms: Skelliege quest to receive it. It is a relic tier steel sword with a 55% critical hit bonus, making it quite formidable.

14 Gesheft Silver Sword

Gesheft Silver Sword is a relic you'll be able to use once you are at level 45 or above. It increases your odds of getting critical hit damage by double and also increases the intensity of your Aard signal.

To find this particular sword, you'll need to find the diagrams in Beauclair. It will require sapphire, leather scraps, acid extract, and enriched dimeritrium ingot.

13 Naevde Seidhe Sword

The Naevde Seidhe sword was first introduced in The Witcher 2. It is a relic tier silver sword that increases both the Igni sign and the Yrden sign. It also offers three customizable slots for runes and a damage level up to 105 with an added 10 per level.

There are a couple of places to find them in the game, in Ard Skellig, a Monster's Den in Kaer Gelen, and during the "For Fame and Glory" quest.

12 Tlareg Silver Relic Sword

Tlareg Silver is another relic tier sword that does intense damage ranging between 700 and 850. It also increases the chance of freezing by 12%, which is really helpful in battle. You can find it while exploring the northern area in Kaer Muire after reaching level 67.

11 Toussaint Steel Sword

You won't be able to get this particular sword unless you have the Blood and Wine DLC installed. But it is one of the best steel swords in the game.

In addition to being potent and excellent against any monsters weakened by silver, it offers a 15% chance of burning, which is always helpful when you're squaring off in a nasty fight. It has an extremely high chance of piercing armor and lets you customize it with three rune slots.

10 Ursine Swords

Like all the Witcher School gear, the Bear School weapon and armor will be some of the best you find in the game. The best of the best would be the Grandmaster Ursine Swords, but those aren't available to you until you get the DLC, Blood and Wine.

They're all upgradable, and you can find the first set of Bear School weapons in Skellige, north of Urialla Harbor. You'll need to journey to the top of Yngvar's Fang. Bear School gear is considered heavy, if that makes a difference to your combat style.

9 Feline Swords

Like the Ursine Swords, Feline Swords come from the Cat School gear. You'll need to embark on the Scavenger Hunt to find the Cat School gear weaponry and armor. First, you have to purchase or find one of the diagrams for the Feline equipment.

If you can't find any, then you can buy the associated quest maps in Blackbough, Crow's Perch, or Lindenvale. After you have all the maps, the quests will unlock, and you can search for the diagrams to craft the weapons. You can find the steel sword diagram in a shipwreck near Grassy Knoll and the silver sword is at Drahim Castle.

8 Longclaw Relic Steel Sword

If you want to find the Longclaw Relic Steel Sword, you'll need to search through relic chests located in various places throughout the Witcher's vast environment. You can find one in eastern Skellige, but you'll need a key to get inside the room where the sword is hidden.

You can also find a relic chest on Hindarsfjall Island. The chest at Freya's Garden has the diagram, which means you can craft the sword yourself, but you'll need to complete a puzzle. It involves maneuvering switches.

7 Black Unicorn Sword

You can craft the Black Unicorn Sword, or hunt down the Relic version of the sword. It's one of the best in the game and a favorite among many players.

If you want to find the sword, you'll need to head to Kernun or locate a water hag near the Inn at the Crossroads. After defeating her, you should loot her for the sword. You have to be level 46 or higher to use it. Find the diagram at Kaer Morhen at the top of the Signal Tower.

6 Viper Venomous Swords

These are some of the best swords in the game, and you'll first encounter them early on. They're from the Viper School, and you can activate the associated Scavenger Hunt quest in White Orchard, which is the first area you'll go in the game.

Check out all the Bandit Camps in the area as one of the diagrams will be located there. You can find other Viper School diagrams by checking out the cemetery in White Orchard, specifically inside the crypt.

5 Beann’shie Relic Steel Sword

Remember where you went hunting for the Longclaw diagrams in Freya's Garden? Well, that's where you'll need to return to get this fantastic steel sword called Beann'shie Relic.

Like many of the swords on this list, you'll need a Master or Grandmaster Blacksmith to craft them for you. Unfortunately, the average Amateur or even Journeyman Blacksmiths will not be able to craft weapons for a high-leveled Geralt, especially when it comes to the rarer swords.

4 Wolven Swords

We've already discussed the Cat, Bear, and Viper School, which leaves us with the Wolf School. You'll want to start by finding the basic gear, and from there, you can either go on scavenger hunts for the upgraded diagrams so you can craft them yourself.

For starters, you can find torn notes at the Blacksmith in Lindenvale. Those will give you access to the Scavenger Hunt quest for the Wolf School gear. The steel sword diagram is located in Bastion while the silver sword is hidden in the Ruined Watchtower.

3 Harpy Relic Silver Sword

The nice thing about the Harpy Relic Silver Sword is you can use it even if you're not at a powerful higher-level. It's one of the few rare swords in the game that doesn't require you to be level 40 or above, although it's not far off since you have to be at least level 37.

When you partake in the quest "Wandering in the Dark" with Keira Metz, you'll be able to find the sword to the right of the first large room inside a chest.

2 Ofieri Saber Sword

The Ofieri gear is part of the Hearts of Stone DLC expansion. You'll find a merchant in Upper Mill will sell you the diagram for the Ofieri Saber sword. Per GosuNoob, the merchant "sells one Ofieri Saber and a diagram for another. They’re both steel, so check the stats before you pick."

You want to ensure you don't wind up missing your opportunity for an excellent steel sword. Since you can't play Hearts of Stone until you get to a certain level, you should already be at the right place to wield the sword when you get it.

1 Aerondight

Finally, we have Aerondight, the best sword in all of The Witcher 3. However, to find this sword, you will need the Blood and Wine DLC expansion pack, as that is the only way to get it.

Find the notice board request for "There Can Only Be One" or speak with the hermit who lives west of Corvo Bianco in Toussaint. It's a pretty involved quest, which makes sense given how valuable the sword is, but you have to prove you have the five chivalric virtues.
