Empty Coop is one of The Witcher 3 quests that give you a sense of accomplishment as soon as you finish it. The quest starts in the countryside surrounding Novigrad and touches on the same themes that you may have encountered in Velen; the plight of children in war.
While Geralt can't solve every problem on his own, he doesn't have to. For all the misery and injustice in the game, some people can do good, even if they need a push to get started. This guide will help you with earning a happy ending for this short little quest.
Starting Empty Coop
This quest starts at an unmarked house just east of Honeyfill Meadworks. Walk over to meet an old woman who is complaining about a monster stealing her chickens. She is frustrated enough with her plight that she will hire Geralt to help track the monster down, if you accept the quest.
Like any other monster contract, you will need to start by finding a set of tracks to follow. You can find them on the southern side of the chicken coop. Your Witcher Senses will highlight the wolf-like footsteps. As Geralt notes, the tracks were made by a bipedal creature.
Finding The Children
The tracks will lead you to a river, forcing you to pick up the trail from the other bank. Fortunately, they continue within the search circle made by the quest. The chicken thieves are not far from there, huddled around a campfire.
Geralt will confront the children and ask why they have been stealing chickens. As they tell it, their parents had been killed by soldiers, leaving them to fend for themselves in the woods. Though they are unrepentant about their theft, Geralt realizes that the children would be in danger if left alone.
The quest will send you back to the old woman's house to report on your success. The quest will end here, with your reward paid out.
During the final conversation, you can suggest taking in the children. If you do so, they will be living with the old woman after several days.
