Many debates rage about which is the best The Witcher 3 expansion between Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. However, they are not the only bits of great DLC content for the game. 'Fool's Gold' is another downloadable quest, and this one won't cost you a dime.

In this smaller addition, Geralt travels to a mostly-deserted village that only contains some bandits, a strange man, and a bunch of pigs. Clearly, something has gone down in the area, and despite our peculiar lad passing it off as 'pig magic', we're looking for better answers. Here's how you'll find them.

Updated on December 2, 2022 by Quinton O'Connor: 'Fool's Gold' is handily one of the funniest quests in a series that knows its humor. With a current-gen graphical and performance update of The Witcher 3 now upon us, feast your eyes on these hogs, and our guide that'll get Geralt through an incredulous situation.

Traveling To Lurtch And Meeting Yontek

This quest begins in a village named Lurtch. You can find Lurtch on the Velen map, east of Lindenvale and northwest of Reardon Manor. Once you get there, you'll see a bunch of bandits roasting a pig.

Talk to the cooks to start the quest. Your first dialog option doesn't matter, as a man will interrupt anyway. His protests against the pig roasting will anger the bandits, and you must demand that they leave him alone.

By doing so, you initiate a fight with the crew. After you've killed them, speak with the man who reveals that his name is Yontek. The fellow starts to talk about 'pig magic,' so Geralt decides to investigate.

Examining The Pigs In The Village

You'll see objectives markers leading you to three different houses in the village, but you only need to head to one of them. At the marker, there are a few pigs. Initiate your Witcher Senses and examine one. Geralt realizes that there is something strange about the animals.

Now, speak to Yontek again, and the Witcher will find out that the pigs used to be humans. Yontek then gives you a key and points you in direction of a nearby location: the Hog Hut.

Headin' To The Hog Hut

As you can guess based on the last conversation, your next objective is to visit the Hog Hut. The place is southeast of the village, and while it's not among the game's most hidden areas, it's a little bit out of the way. On your way there, you'll meet some monsters - namely Nekkers and Ghouls. It's smart to strike them down now to stop them from becoming a pain later.

Outside the cave leading to the Hog Hut are a few bandits to take out, before heading inside where there are several more. Once all the enemies are dealt with, you can turn your attention to the archway behind them. Hit the 'use' prompt on it to unlock a portal and go through.

Secrets Of The Hidden Hog Hut

Once you're on the other side of the portal, you can use your Witcher Senses and examine some footprints and a set of clothes that are a bit further inside. Afterward, talk to the pig that's standing there. In the conversation, you learn that his name is Ivor and that the Hog Hut is actually a temple.

Tell him that you'll look around and then head towards the pig statue. Examine the pedestal in front of the sculpture to learn that gold was once kept inside. Go back to the pig to ask him about the money. During the discussion, Geralt figures out that the stolen gold was the cause of the curse. Therefore, you need to speak to Yontek again.

Yontek is still in Lurtch, so make your way back there. Unfortunately, the village is now being attacked by a pack of hungry wolves. Kill the vicious canines, before asking Yontek about the curse. Geralt reveals that to transform everyone back to the way they were, you need to bring them and the gold to the Hog Hut.

Herding The Pigs And Finishing The Job

Go into the marked houses in the village, and use Axii on one pig per group. This action will convince the animals to meet at the mill in preparation for their journey.

You need to lead the pigs and Yontek towards the Hog Hut. On your way, you'll run into a few Nekkers that you must kill. Then not too long later, a cutscene will play, and you'll be transported to the temple.

At the Hog Hut, the pigs will turn back into people. They'll thank you, yet your reply doesn't matter. However, your next dialog option does matter as the villagers will blame Yontek for their misfortune. You can either defend the man or say it's not your concern.

Letting the former pigs kill the guy does earn you some coin. Alternatively, while Yontek is not exactly one of Geralt's best friends, he did help you previously. So, it's a moral choice that's up to you. Whatever you decide to do with the strange man and the villagers, the quest ends, and you'll be on your way.
