The delayed Witcher 3 next-gen upgrade once again has a release window! It's been delayed for so long that we've stopped saying next-gen and switched to current-gen. The PS5 and Xbox Series editions of the game are now expected to launch sometime in Q4 2022.Originally slated for the first half of 2021, then late 2021, and rated by PEGI in October last year, the update was pushed back indefinitely. Today, the Witcher Twitter account decided to celebrate the game's 7th anniversary by letting fans know the upgrade now has a set release window. Whether or not that actually means anything these days is another matter entirely.We don't know everything these upgrades will include, but we know a fair bit. Mainly, we can expect faster loading times thanks to current-gen consoles having built-in SSDs as opposed to standard HDDs. The upgrade will include all the DLC, including the phenomenal Blood & Wine. It will also contain new DLC items that relate to Netflix's Witcher series.
As well as the CDPR developers being hard at work on this upgrade, the team may also be tapping into the modding community to help improve the game. This news is from May of last year, however, and there were no binding agreements at the time, so this may no longer be happening.
It's not unheard of for companies to collaborate with or hire modders, though. The lead writer for the upcoming Fallout: London mod was hired by Bethesda.
In other Witcher and CDPR news, Netflix is already mapping out season four of the show. There's also a new mod that lets you give your trusty steed Roach a makeover, not that the beautiful beast needs one.
