Get armor that's too cumbersome and you won't be able to dodge fast enough, but get armor that's too light and you'll take more damage and much faster. There is a lot of armor to find in The Witcher 3, some of it better than others. Here are some of the rarest armor sets you can find and where to find them. Keep in mind, you'll need the Blood and Wine DLC to get the majority of these.

10 Shiadhal's Armor

Shiadhal's Armor has a very high level of defense and if you want to keep Geralt protected it's a worthy set to craft when you get the chance. You can buy this armor if you like or you can collect the items you'll need to craft it which includes Draconid Leather, Meteorite Silver Plate, and Amber Dust.

9 Grandmaster Griffin Armor

You'll need to fight off a cyclops to get your hands on these diagrams located in an old fort in Skelliege. Griffin Armor is great for casting signs since it increases their intensity. As it is from another Witcher School, the Griffin School, to be specific, you'll need to get all the previous versions crafted before you can get the mastercrafted armor, and then you can get the Grandmaster version in the Blood and Wine DLC.

8 Grandmaster Feline Armor

Similar to the Ursine Armor, the Feline Armor set comes from another Witcher school, this time the Cat School. Again, you can start the treasure hunt or simply go directly to the source and unearth the Cat Armor diagrams.

Cat Armor is better for players who like to be able to move quickly and dodge efficiently rather than absorb damage. You'll need to craft all versions of the armor before you can get a Grandmaster Blacksmith to fix it up. You'll find the diagrams hidden inside a cave in on the Faroe Island in Skelliege.

7 Grandmaster Wolven Armor

The Grandmaster Wolf armor is one of the heavier suits of armor in the game but some fans like that since it helps them avoid losing health as quickly. As we've already discussed with the other Witcher School sets, this armor comes from the Wolf School and you'll need to find the diagrams and craft all versions before you're able to get the best set.

6 Grandmaster Ursine Armor

The Bear School of Witcher 3 has some incredibly sturdy armor and weapons. You'll need to embark on the treasure hunt to find the diagrams for the armor and then craft the regular, enhanced, and superior versions of the Ursine Armor.

Once you've done that, you can then get the Grandmaster version. You can find the diagram at the Destroyed Bastion, inside a chest hidden within the tower. In general, you'll want to make sure you're always searching the game's many chests, you never know what you might find.

The New Moon armor set and gear are introduced in the Hearts of Stone DLC. It's not necessarily one of the "best" armor sets in the game, although it is still very impressive, it's nice to look at it and many fans will want to seek it out anyway to add it to their collection.

You can only get the Toussaint Armor set in the Land of a Thousand Fables, which is introduced in the Blood and Wine DLC. The armor is one of the prettier sets in the game, considering it is made out of gold and offers a great deal of protection.

However, if you're not careful about where you look while playing the DLC, it is possible you might miss it completely. You can only retrieve it while playing the "Beyond Hill & Dale" quest. It will be on a dead body in the lake.

2 Hen Gaidth Armor

The Hen Gaidth armor is one of the rarest sets of armor in the game and one of the coolest. It makes Geralt look like a scarlet demon or something equally threatening. However, you can only get this armor by playing the "Night of the Long Fangs" quest in the Blood and Wine DLC expansion.

1 Tesham Mutna Armor

The Tesham Mutna Armor is another intriguing and rare armor set introduced into the Blood and Wine DLC. It's one of the best armors in the game and one of the coolest-looking. It sort of makes Geralt look like a deadly assassin and it provides plated protection to keep him safe.

It's a heavy armor that will keep Geralt very well-protected and absorb lots of deadly blows from your various foes throughout the game. You can find it in the Tesham Mutna Ruins, you'll need to do some digging to get all the pieces.
