The release of The Witcher 3 Redux has been a great addition for anyone seeking a slight touch of balance to an already well-made game. The mod provides a lore-friendly gameplay overhaul with a focus placed on preparation for greater success.

Version 3.2 is now live, bringing a brand-new craftable sword named Alzur, which summons Alzur’s Thunder once charged. The sword is described as the steel equivalent of Aerondight. Update 3.2 also brings changes to the combat skill Deadly Precision, and when at least 1 Adrenaline Point is available, parrying arrows, countering and well-timed dodges all increase the chance of performing an instant kill. This is lost if Geralt takes any damage and rewards precise combat.

This change to Deadly Precision also required a change to make Rotfiends immune from the instant kill mechanic, which prevents Geralt from death due to their explosion on death.

Overall, the changes made in The Witcher 3 Redux are often simple and only apply a light touch to gameplay. At its core, the game should feel the same but now provides a more realistic feeling. A greater focus is placed on preparation because a Witcher without potions is not really themselves, at least for those who want the genuine experience based on lore.

This also means that in The Witcher 3 Redux, potions are far more useful in their upgraded version, and to offset this increase in power, are also more toxic. Players need to be careful when choosing what to imbibe. For example, Black Blood Basic provides damage returned from 15% to 30%, but toxicity is also up from 15 to 30. Duration too increases from 30 to 45 seconds.

Most potions in the game are scaled up in this way, meaning that players will get a much bigger incentive to prepare their broad range of potions and drink up before an important fight. Along this same theme of preparation, bombs scale up to do far more damage but have their ammo count reduced.

For any player who has already played through the sprawling world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its long expansions, The Witcher 3 Redux offers a fantastic way to experience the game with a shift in how to be the most effective in combat.
