CD Projekt Red is finally rolling out a much anticipated patch that should address the issues players have been experiencing with The Witcher 3's "next-gen" update. While the game was updated with major performance and graphics enhancements for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series last month, players have been reporting a host of new visual bugs, technical issues, and glitches. Now, CD Projekt is rolling out Patch 4.01 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. "It improves the overall stability and performance of the game on next-gen consoles and PC, and brings various fixes to all platforms", the studio said via the official Witcher account on Twitter. As CDPR says, those on previous gen platforms also stand to gain from this new patch. Related: The Witcher 3’s Novigrad Might Be The Best Video Game City Of All Time CD Projekt included a full list of changes for Patch 4.01 via a blog post on The Witcher site. It rolls out today February 2 so should be good to download. As can be expected, the patch includes many minor fixes so players should expect better performance and stability on whichever platform they're playing the game on.

But some of the most notable changes include:

PC SPECIFIC

  • Fixed an issue where the Screen Space Reflections setting wasn't working on PC despite being turned on. Players who had previously set their SSR setting to high may notice a performance impact.
  • Added a new performance mode for ray-traced global illumination, which can be toggled by players with compatible hardware. It improves frame rate by prioritizing performance over range and precision.

CONSOLE SPECIFIC

  • Fixed an issue where consoles could create a higher amount of saves than their set limit, resulting in various issues with saving the game or user settings being reset.
  • Improved Screen Space Reflections quality on next-gen consoles.
  • Optimized ray-traced global illumination on next-gen consoles to improve the performance of Ray Tracing Mode.

In addition, there are fixes to issues relating to quests and gameplay. Quests such as Battle Preparations, Family Matters, King's Gambit, among others have been patched up, while Adrenaline Rush Mutation should now work as advertised, according to CDPR. Meanwhile, those playing in the Arabic, Korean, and Simplified Chinese language options can expect some fixes, while Orianna's song 'Lullaby of Woe' now has localised versions in Korean and Chinese.
