Good deeds in The Witcher 3 are rarely repaid quickly, if at all. In many instances, you have to trust that you have done good and move on. Fortunately, this pattern is occasionally broken in a handful of quests. If you bring the quest Suspicious Shakedown to the right conclusion, you can see the fruits of your labor.

This quest is found in the southern part of Novigrad, where you can find a gang of bandits trying to shake a merchant down. You can step in and ensure the merchant's safety, should you make the right decisions in this encounter.

Where To Start Suspicious Shakedown

You can find the beleaguered merchant north of the Gate of the Hierarch fast travel point, past the Rosemary and Thyme, and in a small, secluded alley. You will see a merchant cornered by a pair of bandits inside.

A pair of thugs wearing hoods and covered in filth glare at Geralt while a merchant wearing a green headdress hangs his head in defeat.

Engaging with the group will see Geralt confront the bandits, providing you with three options for resolving the situation.

Fight The Group

Geralt will provoke the criminals to the extent that they fight him. You will need to defeat three sword-wielding enemies.

Axii

You will need to have Delusion at level one for this to work.

Leave

Geralt will abandon the merchant and leave. You will not be able to buy from the merchant as a consequence.

Finding The Merchant

If you help the merchant, you will enjoy a discount if you buy his wares. The only problem is that he does not say where his shop is.

The merchant's store is located in the northern part of Novigrad, southwest of St. Gregory's Bridge. It is a fairly unassuming building that is easy to miss. You will know that it is the merchant when he thanks Geralt for helping him.

While he does not have many useful goods, he does stock Redanian Herbal, Mandrake Cordial, and Cherry Cordial. These ingredients are vital in producing White Gull, an ingredient in many of Geralt's stronger potions.

His discount will make these more affordable.
