I, and most fans of the wildly popular Witcher franchise have no shame in admitting that the romances are one of the best aspects in the game. Instead of going the route of many games like Fallout, Skyim or Assassin's Creed where romance feels entirely tacked on, The Witcher 3  paints it's relationships in a complex, very much grounded light.

You feel emotion when you hurt a character, and much pride and happiness when Geralt professes his love to the right person. And then there's just random acts of friskiness, but even those feel over-the-top and fun. It's no secret that Geralt of Rivia gets around, but for today let's just rank his ten best romances in the series.

10 The Succubus (Witcher 2)

witcher_2_succubus

Throughout your time in the Witcher franchise you'll run into a violently seductive creature known as a succubus. This creature is known for luring men under her charm and feeding off their life energy. Now witchers are supposed to deal with these creatures the same as they would with any monster, however when you're dealing with something as alluring as a succubus, sometimes you break protocol. In The Witcher 2, Geralt cannot fight his temptation and gets in bed with one of these creatures. The funny part is that you find out Geralt isn't the only witcher to go down this road.

9 Madame Sasha (Witcher 3)

Now if you fancy Gwent (which you should, because it's one of the best dang things about the game) you'll eventually run into a major tournament being hosted in Novigrad. Spoiler alert, but regardless if you win or lose you'll find out all the prize money has been stolen -- enter Madame Sasha who will help you get it back. After a fun fight for the money you rightfully, or unrightfully earned, Madame Sasha will want to reward you herself. It's such an organic fun scene too as she stops you right in the middle of one of Geralt's famed monster stories to suggest you two do the dirty.

8 Jutta An Dimun (Witcher 3)

If there's one romantic archetype as old as time it's the respected warrior finding love due to combative skill. It's worked for Hercules and James Bond, and in The Witcher 3, it works for Geralt too. Jutta An Dimun resides in Skellige, and if you know anything about Skellige you know that they love their warriors. Well, An Dimun takes that to the next level by rewarding you with romance for defeating her in combat. Even though she's a young woman, she proudly totes that no one has bested her, so depending on your own ability you can be the first to defeat her and her first romantic partner.

7 Fringilla Vigo (Books)

Unfortunately this one is not expanded upon in any of the games. but if you're a fan of the book you'll notice the bizarre tension between Geralt and the sorceress Fringilla Vigo. That's because way back in the day, the two struck up a flame that at times got a bit weird. Geralt still had feelings for Yennefer at the time, and at certain points in his relationship with Vigo he certainly showed that. Funny enough, Geralt would scream out Yennefer's name while him and Vigo were in bed. Yeah, as you might expect this didn't go to well for very long so the couple split, but this can still showcase a lot of awkward tension about their past.

6 Keira Metz (Witcher 3)

Before I dug into the Witcher lore, the romance between Geralt and Keira Metz was one of my favorites in the entire series. Metz is a witty, charming and character who seemed to hit all the right beats with Geralt. Sure, she ends up using you to further her own personal interests, but I always found it easy to forgive. It's a great partnership, but it's clearly not meant to be once you become a bit more familiar with their history. Also if you recruit her for the battle at Kaer Morhen you can set her up with Lambert, which is pretty cool in all honesty.

5 Ves (Witcher 2)

ves_witcher_2

Ves is another that respects the combat abilities of Geralt and she definitely shows it in The Witcher 2. Towards the back end of the game, Ves will challenge Geralt in a fighting tournament combat in which he defeat her to let her know he takes her combat ability seriously. Afterwards you can go visit her at the Blue Stripes camp and you can sweep her off her feet. It's honestly up there with some of the most heart tugging scenes in the series as you can see that Ves is very protective of her vulnerable side. So it's sad to see that this is all but abandoned in The Witcher 3.

4 Syanna (Blood and Wine)

Syanna Geralt Land of A Thousand Fables Witcher 3 Blood and Wine

Syanna is the older sister of the duchess of Toussaint, Anna Henrietta, and through your time in the Blood and Wine expansion pack you'll run into her. Syanna had a rough childhood, having nightmares almost every night and eventually being banned from the Kingdom of Toussaint. Her favorite outlet growing up was visiting the Land of a Thousand Fables, an illusion created by mage Artorius Vigo. Well, she mostly still has fond memories of it because if you pursue a romance with her, you'll end up in one of the most wild scenes in the entirety of the series.

3 Shani (Hearts of Stone)

Shani has every right to be at the top of this list to compete for Geralt's affection. The witcher met her at a very young age and was instantly enamored with her. The two struck up a relationship, but had to abandon it shortly after due to Shani pursuing her medical career. However, in The Witcher 3 Hearts of Stone you can tell that the feelings these two once had hasn't skipped a beat. Quickly they rekindle feelings for each other, and almost as quickly, have to break it all off again as they're both to focused on the paths they've built for themselves.

2 Triss Merigold (Witcher 3)

And here we are, the two that have fought for Geralt's affection for years and the two you must painstakingly pick between in The Witcher 3. The thing is, Triss is the embodiment of "fool me once, shame on you, yadda yadda, you know the rest." Triss prayed upon Geralt's amnesia early onto his life to pursue her own personal feelings despite knowing his past with Yennefer. It's funny that the game series introduces her first -- it almost tricks you into thinking that Triss and Geralt are meant to be. But anyone who knows the lore knows there's a much stronger argument for who Geralt should be with.

1 Yennerfer (Witcher 3)

These two are tied by fate, and no bouquet, expensive ring, or romantic boombox outside your ex's window is no match for that kind of love. Funny thing is, Yennefer wasn't that into Geralt the first time they met, but after he saved her from the wrath of a Dijinn (a genie of sorts) they were quite literally tied together by fate. And to top it off, they break off the wish that ties them together in Witcher 3 and still feel the same love they've always felt. It's so much more of a comprehensive relationship than any other character in the series -- plus let's not forget about that unicorn.
