The witchers are a race of mutated human beings that are assigned with the painstakingly troublesome task of being monster slayers for hire. In The Witcher 3, we stumble across the biggest cast of witchers yet, some who are 600 years old, like Vesemir, and others who are yolked out of their minds with arms the size of car tires.
A witcher's strength, however, is determinant by a lot of different factors; how experienced are they? Are they smart or rely more on brute strength? And, if presented with the decision of rescuing your daughter or playing another game of Gwent, which would they choose? All these questions and more play an important role in determining our strongest witcher, so, let's break down who's the best of the best.
10 Jad Karadin
Starting off our list is a witcher you're likely unfamiliar with: Jad Karadin of the School of Cat. Karadin is a retired witcher that you can come across in The Witcher 3 if you decide to help Lambert with his plot to get his revenge against him.
During his glory days, Karadin spent his time as the leader of a band of assassins murdered Aiden, another witcher of the School of Cat and a close friend to Lambert. Geralt can decide to help Lambert with his revenge plot and help him kill Karadin. It proves to be a tough fight, but he's far from one of the best witchers we come across.
9 Coën
Coën is another witcher that plays a backseat to the central story at hand but played a crucial role in Ciri's training. He's from the School of the Griffin and grew a beard to cover the scars he developed from early childhood diseases. It's actually a really neat detail, as all witchers are immune to diseases such as the ones Coën suffered from, indicating that he was trained later into his life.
While spending a winter at Kaer Morhen when he trained Ciri in sword combat after her training, Ciri would foresee Coën dying in the Battle of Brenna. Unfortunately for Coën, this would prove true, as the witcher died from a twin scythe to the heart.
8 Gaetan
This school of Cat witcher was added into the game through the quest "Where the Cat and the Wolf play" in The Witcher 3. The quest starts off with you investigating a village where all the peasants have been mysteriously murdered. Initially Geralt believes it's a monster, but soon discovers that they were massacred by another witcher, Gaetan.
Geralt will track Gaetan down and will understand that the village betrayed the witcher after he finished taking care of a Leshen. From there you can either kill Gaetan or spare him—either way, it's a tough fight warranting him this spot on the list.
7 Berengar
Berengar is a witcher from the School of the Wolf that you will encounter during your time in the first Witcher. Geralt and Berengar will work together for a brief portion of the game before we learn that Berengar left Kaer Morhen and has a distaste for all witchers. Like Lambert, he blames the organization for denying him a normal life.
So, he makes the mistake of challenging Geralt to a duel that ends with our protagonist taking the life of Berengar or sparing his life. If you do end up taking his life, you'll find a powerful medallion on his corpse that only further indicates his strength.
6 Eskel
Eskel was one of Geralt's original homeboys, growing up alongside him and Lambert while at Kaer Morhen. Sure, Eskel might not be the suavest among the three, something he isn't shy about. That said, he is a force to be reckoned with, and he has the scars to show for it.
Not only does he help Geralt in taking down a Griffin, but he also goes head to head with one of the generals of the Wild Hunt. Sure, he doesn't end up winning the battle, but he gives one of the Hunt's fiercest warriors a serious run for his money.
5 Lambert
Lambert is a seriously underrated witcher despite always getting on the nerves of Vesemir, Geralt, and especially Yennefer. When you meet him in The Witcher 3, you'll get the impression that he's a pompous geek who won't be much help in battle—oh, how wrong you are.
As soon as the battle against the Wild Hunt breaks out, you'll find Lambert on the front lines kicking some serious ass. He and Geralt even execute one of the best cut scenes in the game when they're fighting back-to-back, barely getting out of the scuffle alive. Lambert is one witcher you don't want to mess with.
4 Letho Of Gulet
From sheer muscle mass alone, Letho of Gulet or the Kingslayer from Witcher 2 is one monster of a witcher. His arms alone are the size of two toddlers, and his shoulders look like cinder blocks. Letho is the final boss of The Witcher 2 where you'll be given the option to spare him despite all the crimes he's committed or fight him to the death—where you'll certainly learn how strong he is.
If you spare Letho, you'll come across him in The Witcher 3 where you can recruit him for the fight against the Wild Hunt. He doesn't help too much in the fight, but he already has enough credit in our book.
3 Vesemir
We kept going back and forth deciding whether to give Vesemir or Letho the edge. But, seeing as the old witcher was able to live to 600 years of age in a profession where many if not all die young, we just had to give him the edge.
That's also not to mention that Vesemir survived the infamous attack at Kaer Morhen that wiped out many of the witchers of the School of the Wolf. So, this is to say that Vesemir is the most knowledgeable of any witcher in the series as well a being extremely strong in his prime.
2 Geralt of Rivia
Geralt might be good —alright, he may be one of the greatest witchers to have ever lived—but he isn't the best. But, what can be said about our favorite witcher that hasn't been said already? For starters, Geralt is the most famous witcher of all time, which can be attributed to his incredible feats and friend Dandelion.
He's slayed a dragon, killed countless monsters, saved the world a few times, defeated any witcher who challenged him and killed the king of the Wild Hunt, and that's just to name a few of his achievements. Geralt's done it all, and, if he's ever in a pinch, there aren't many who can stand up to the man.
1 Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon
While technically not an official "witcher" as she never underwent the mutation process, Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon, better known as Ciri, was adopted into the witcher family at a young age, and, due to her incredible power thanks to the mythical Elder Blood, she's the strongest character in the series.
The Elder Blood allows Ciri the ability to bend time and space itself, teleporting wherever she sees fit and releasing huge surges of immeasurable power. At her best, there isn't anyone in the world of The Witcher who can stop her.
