Although many of us now can't see Geralt of Rivia as anyone else except for Henry Cavill, back when he was first cast, he was considered a little too pretty to portray the rough-looking, scarred witcher. When the show was announced, fan-castings went wild, and everyone had an idea about who should play Geralt. The fact that The Witcher has already aired its first season doesn't mean we don't get to imagine other actors in this role, in case something happens to Cavill - and maybe we can even convince you there are even better choices out there.

Of course, it is impossible to please everyone, so you may disagree with some of the choices. Please consider this: you're probably wrong. Let's dive in.

Mads Mikkelsen

via ScreenRant

Mads Mikkelsen is probably the most obvious choice for our beloved witcher. The Danish actor's role of Tristan in the 2004 King Arthur movie shows he knows how to wear armor, and he's not quite as young as Cavill, making him a good choice for the grizzled monster-slayer. He is both famous enough to draw attention to the series (as if it needed any!) and serious enough to lend the show credibility even to those who hate fantasy, Mads Mikkelsen seems like a missed chance. Ah well.

Travis Fimmel

Following the trend of quite predictable actors who could play Geralt, Travis Fimmel was also one of those actors many people wanted to see in the role of Geralt. His experience playing a character in a cold, muddy and quite often bloody world would surely help him portray the Witcher accurately. And if all else fails, we know Fimmel knows how to brood as well as anyone.

Hugh Grant

Hear me out. Has anyone ever thought about how to attract ladies that grew up on 90s chick flicks? No? Well, that's what I'm here for. Hugh Grant has certainly aged enough to be able to play a Witcher who, incidentally, has a very long life expectancy (unless he gets killed, which is quite a risk in his trade). Although Grant may be hard to imagine swinging a sword, he is more than easy to imagine in romance scenes, having done thousands of those in his time, and I think the actresses participating in those scenes would be very grateful to us.

John Travolta

While we're on the topic of dashing older gentlemen who could play Geralt, is there anyone more suited to the role than John Travolta? We know from Pulp Fiction that he's badass, from Grease that he can be a ladies man, and his career has been so varied that he could definitely pull any character off without breaking a sweat. The real question is actually - why not?

Nicolas Cage

Although Mikkelsen may be the most obvious choice for Geralt at first, when you really think about it, Nic Cage is the most obvious choice for any character in any movie or show ever. I mean, if you can steal the Declaration of Independence, you can do anything. But considering that fans may not go for Nic - given the fact that there are so many other irresistible choices preceding him in our article - we have an even better idea.

Consider this.

Nicolas Cage as Yennefer of Vengerberg.
