Netflix recreated the classic bathtub scene from The Witcher III: The Wild Hunt in its upcoming Witcher TV series. Here’s where it’s from.

We’re getting excited for The Witcher, Netflix’s new series which debuts in December. The streaming company just released a new trailer that shows various scenes from the show and we think they captured the dark, gothic atmosphere of The Witcher video games franchise perfectly.

However, The Witcher isn’t just about grimy horseback rides through a swamp and cutting the heads off of werewolves. There are tender, almost vulnerable moments depicted too, and one of those just so happens to be mentioned in the trailer.

Around the halfway point, we briefly see Geralt in a tub idly flicking water while Yennefer lays alongside him wearing a white blouse. Check it out in the trailer vid below:

Now, where might the series’ producers have gotten an idea for a scene like that? Probably from the beginning of The Witcher III, where Geralt is dreaming of better times at the Witcher Keep at Kaer Morhen.

At the beginning of Witcher III, Geralt takes a brief nap and dreams of being back in a tub at a castle. It’s an iconic scene because Geralt is rarely shown to be as relaxed as this, and because… well, he’s basically spread-eagle in a tub. You can’t see anything, but the implication of nudity is clearly there.

Geralt’s relaxing is interrupted by the introduction of an illusory arthropod that starts crawling up from his submerged anatomy. Well interrupted, we’re then shown the source of that spell to be Yennefer, who is naked in a chair reading a book. The two share a tender moment before Geralt goes to train Ciri in the ways of the Witchers.

The scene of Geralt in a bathtub became a popular meme soon after the release of Witcher III, so including a similar scene in the Netflix series seems a deliberate nod to Witcher fans. We’ll have to wait for the series’ debut on December 20th to find out if there will be more.
