The Witcher's second season arrived in December 2021 and Netflix is already well underway with developing season three. Not much is known yet but a synopsis has been revealed, telling us what Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer will be up to next.

"As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it," the synopsis opened. "Entrusted with Ciri's magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl's untapped powers; instead, they discover they've landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line - or risk losing each other forever."

In the fourth chronological book, Time of Contempt, Yennefer plans to enrol Ciri at Aretuza so she can master her magic, but on the way, they find students who have fled only for Ciri to be stopped by the headmistresses. It turns out that Yennefer brought Ciri for Tissaia so that she could tap into her prophecies power - when doing so, Ciri learns that the King of Redania is going to be assassinated while the Northern Kings are planning to lead a war against the scoia-tael. This could be the "political corruption, dark magic, and treachery" teased.

Alongside the synopsis, we also got a glimpse at Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, and Anya Chalotra on set, filming the third season: "Our family is back together again." They're in the snow just outside a forest, likely filming their journey to the fictional Artezua.

However, the show's second season toyed with the narrative and character deaths to keep things different and unique from the books, so we could see a completely different story unfold to that of Time of Contempt. We'll find out shortly. Until then, there's the upcoming Blood Origin spin-off said to be releasing some time this year.
