Everyone likes the retro gaming aesthetic. Whether you lived through the arcade golden age in the 80s or just appreciate lo-fi midi tracks and 8-bit graphics, the retro style seems to appeal to gamers across the board.

Luckily, retro is back in a big way. From mini-arcades to fashion to actual new games for classic consoles, there are so many creative and interesting gifts for the gamer in your life. Here is our list of 5 amazing retro gifts.

8BitDo Controllers

If you haven't heard of 8BitDo, you're really missing out. 8BitDo makes a huge assortment of retro-inspired controllers for both classic and modern gaming. With the awesome collection of NES and SNES games on the Switch for Nintendo Online subscribers, these retro-wireless controllers are perfect. They offer Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz, and wired controllers with original designs, updated designs with throwback aesthetics, and everything in between. My personal favorite is the SN30 Pro+ that has a modern controller layout but a SNES look and feel.

You can find all of 8BitDo's products on its website.

Street Fighter II: Champion Edition X RepliCade Mini Arcade

Classic fighting game fans has a deep reverence for Street Fighter II, and this mini version from New Wave Toys is an incredible replica. The cabinet stands only 12 inches tall but is a perfect recreation of the classic fighting game. It even comes with a second controller for two-player fighting. Firing up this arcade cabinet and hearing the classic Street Fighter II music will bring back the best memories of afternoons at the local arcade and the action on the sticks and buttons is sublime. It's highly recommended, and it looks great on your shelf and is still a blast to play.

You can see our full review of the Street Fighter II: Champion Edition X RepliCade here and shop all of RepliCade's mini-arcade machines (which includes Tempest and a Kickstarter for Dragon's Lair) on New Wave Toy's Website

Mega Cat Studios Retro Cartridge Games

How about some new classic games? Mega Cat Studios is releasing 8-bit and 16-bit games for Sega, NES, SNES, Game Boy, and GBA. That's right, new old games.

Mega Cat publishes almost 30 games on classic cartridges, including the prequel to Graffiti Game's upcoming roguelike Bite The Bullet called Bite The Bullet: First Course on Sega Genesis. They do everything from puzzle games to beat-em-ups to shooters, including one I'm particularly interested in called Wedding Massacre. I think the name speaks for itself.

Most of these games are available on Steam or Nintendo Switch, so you can check them out first before choosing which cartridge you want. They're an awesome addition to your collection and will confuse and delight your friends when they come over and look through your old cartridges.

You can check out all of the new retro games Mega Cat Studios publishes on its website.

Pac-Man Quarter Scale Arcade Cabinet

Maybe fighting games aren't your style, then look no further than the Pac-Man Quarter Scale Arcade Cabinet from Numskull. There are currently seven different games Numskull makes in quarter scale, including Ms. Pac-Man, Galaxian, Track & Field, Dig Dug, Space Invaders, and Galaga. Each one is an absolute thing of beauty. They all come with a certificate of authenticity and a collectors coin (as if you didn't have incentive enough to collect them all). Imagine that, a mini-arcade at your home. I want to turn them all on at once and hear the authentic arcade symphony!

The Pac-Man Quarter Arcade is an authentic replica all the way down to the light-up marquee and the screws on top. You can play 1 or 2 player and it charges with a micro-USB for hours of wakka-wakka-wakka action. Pac-Man is one of the most iconic video game characters of all time and this mini-cabinet makes a phenomenal gift for any video game collector.
