This week, we saw all sorts of new stuff—most notably from the PlayStation Showcase on Thursday. When rounding up TheGamer’s best features from this week, we of course had to include thoughts on the Knights of the Old Republic remake. Additionally, with Take-Two’s recent conquest to tear down GTA mods, we just had to highlight a feature covering how their doing so hampers devs' creativity. Also included among our favorite features of the week are how Minecraft can help overcome the fear of change, how Dark Souls can teach perseverance in the face of anxiety, and how Life Is Strange: True Colors can provide security in one’s identity.

Minecraft Helped Me Overcome My Fear Of Change

Many people struggle with anxiety and fear of change. Contributor Issy Van Der Velde bravely opened up about his experience with anxiety and how playing Minecraft over the years helped him overcome it. Issy explains how he was mostly a casual player—meaning he’d only play for a couple weeks at a time, several times a year—so the updates each time he’d come back to the game were huge. His experience returning to Minecraft to find all new places and mechanics helped Issy accept that change isn’t necessarily good or bad, it just is.

Dark Souls Taught Me To Never Give Up In Spite Of My Anxiety

You might not be inclined to think of Dark Souls as a game that’s helpful for anxiety, considering its difficulty level and anxiety-inducing boss battles. However, contributor James Troughton explains how even though he struggled with anxiety while playing the game, nothing felt greater than finishing it, despite how his anxiety tried to hold him back. He explains the struggle of wanting to cave and give up on the game in fear that he wouldn’t be good enough to finish, but that the validation that came from persevering was more than worth it.

Take-Two Interactive Bullying GTA Modders Hampers Creativity And Innovation

Take-Two Interactive has been going after older GTA mods lately, including the six-year-long GTA Underground mod and a group that had reverse engineered the code for GTA 3 and Vice City. Likely, this is due to the rumored GTA remasters that Take-Two might be launching in the near future. Features Editor Stacey Henley explains that it’s much more important to encourage indie devs to borrow and play around with already-existing content rather than bully them into shutting down years of work, especially not for companies that are already rich to make remasters of the same games to get richer.

Knights Of The Old Republic Is One Of The Greatest Star Wars Stories Ever Told And Fully Deserves A Remake

In debatably the most exciting part of the PlayStation Showcase on Thursday, we got an announcement for a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake. Features Editor Andy Kelly argues that KOTOR is the perfect game for a remake, due to its quests, characters, and story. The traits that don’t hold up this many years later—the visuals, UI, and the character animation—are easy enough to update in a remake. In other words, with the meat of the content still being great to this day, KOTOR was the perfect choice.

Life Is Strange: True Colors Showed Me It’s Okay To Be A Straight Trans Woman

Features Editor Jade King shares that, as a queer person, it is incredibly easy to doubt yourself. But through playing Life is Strange: True Colors, she was able to find confidence in her identity. She describes how pursuing Ryan in True Colors came naturally to her, and how romantic relationships are one of the few ways she has been able to feel valid in her own existence as someone who struggles with gender dysphoria. Jade describes how she can easily identify with Alex Chen, because Alex is attracted to both genders, too.
