The recent Nintendo Direct was full of announcements, but one of the most exciting was that Undertale content was making its way to Super Smash Bros. UltimateThe Ver. 5.0.0 patch will allow players to purchase a costume of Sans, which comes with a remixed version of "Megalovania" that was created by Toby Fox.

The Sans costume and remixed song only cost seventy-five cents, so they seem like a bargain on the surface, but the number of stages that "Megalovania" can be played on is limited. There is no dedicated Undertale stage in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which means that "Megalovania" falls under the Other category. The Other category exists for stages that come from games with only a few songs, in order to give those levels a more varied mix of tracks.

"Megalovania" is one of the best boss themes in video game history and its addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a big deal to Undertale fans, so it's a shame that it can only be used on eleven stages. It's especially disappointing that it cannot be used on Battlefield or Final Destination, as they are tied to Super Smash Bros. itself and not to any specific franchise. A battle on Final Destination with "Megalovania" as its track would have made for many an epic final battle in tournaments across the world, but that is not meant to be.

All of the music in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is tied to specific stages and that is true of the tracks that are added when purchasing a paid DLC character. The fact that "Megalovania" is paid DLC never guaranteed that it would appear in all stages, but it's a shame that it couldn't at least be used in the levels that originated in the Super Smash Bros. series. As it stands, the "Megalovania" track can only be played on a seemingly random assortment of stages.
