Fallout 4 was released seven years after the success of Fallout 3. Though Fallout: New Vegas was released in 2010, gamers wanted a new numbered entry to the Fallout series. Fallout 4 was soon published in late 2015. Fans were thrilled to enter the post-post-apocalyptic wasteland once again. This time, players took on the role of a voiced protagonist named Nick or Nora as they searched for the stolen son, Shaun.

Fallout 4 doesn't end after finding Shaun. The game will take the Sole Survivor up and down the Commonwealth, including Maine, in the Far Harbor DLC. Bethesda continued to release new expansion pack content for years. Even after the DLC stopped being developed, Bethesda launched the Creation Club, which updates the game almost weekly with new paid mods.

Bethesda continued to release new content, but fans were curious about what was left out. As with most game development, concept art and ideas begin to flow, but making them work in the game can become a challenge. Fans took to the task of looking over game files to see what may have been left out in the final version. Gamers who didn't have access to Fallout 4's data instead looked at the Art of Fallout 4 artbook. There were several beautiful illustrations in the book that showed monsters and items designs that were left out of the final product.

Thanks to devoted fans, we got a glimpse of what was left on the cutting room floor. There were several quests, items, and monsters that never made it into Fallout 4. Our list contains some spoilers for the end-game content, including Far Harbor. Keep reading if you're ready to learn what you missed out on in Fallout 4.

25 Become The Commonwealth’s Greatest Librarian

via: fallout.wikia.com

Not every Ghoul in Goodneighbor is a terrible person. Daisy is a good-natured Ghoul who tried to help others, both human and mutant. She will ask if you can return an overdue library book for her at the Boston Public Library. After you return it, the quest is over.

There may have been more opportunities to return the Commonwealth's overdue library books.

Similar to other radiant quests, your task would be to return a specific number of books. The reward is a BPL compressed data holodisk.

24 Yet Another Strange Business

via: proyectofreak.com

Nuka-World may seem like an amusement park of endless possibilities. The Sole Survivor will have few opportunities to learn about the park during their adventures. Within the cut content, you would have learned about the terrible truth about toxic waste stored in the park. According to a Pre-War holotape, a worker named Dusty states: "Said we can't store any more waste under the bottling plant while we're waiting for the new disposal system to come online. Seems like some of the barrels started leaking, so they got a bit of a mess on their hands."

23 Help Animals Find New Homes

via: steamcommunity.com (Binki)

The Red Rocket gas station chains are all over the Fallout world. The Sole Survivor first meets Dogmeat at the Red Rocket near Sanctuary Hills. Near the Nuka-Cola Red Rocket in Nuka World, you will learn it was once home to a settler and two cats. Unfortunately, the settler was forced to leave. He left a note in a workshop nearby that states: "If you are reading this and have somewhere safe, please give Luna and Katana a good home." This could have led to side quests to find the felines new homes.

22 Return Of The Lone Wanderer

via: youtube.com (Vault13Legend)

The events of Fallout 4 take place a mere decade after Fallout 3. The game has characters and references to the past game. Within the game files, fans found a render of the Vault 101 jumpsuit. It may have been a casual nod to the game, or have a much greater purpose.

The Lone Wanderer may have met their end in the Commonwealth.

If the Wanderer is still alive, they may have had the opportunity to team up with the Sole Survivor, ensuring they were no longer alone to fight the evils of the East Coast.

21 Checking In On The Experiments

via: youtube.com (Tuffmunkee)

The Institute has placed many Synths in the Commonwealth and tracked their activity. In the cut quest "Salvage," Max Loken wants to know how their experiments are doing. It's up to the Sole Survivor to check up on various Synths, who may not know they are Synths, in the Commonwealth. This quest would have been a radiant quest that may have never ended. In the final game, there is a similar quest called "Political Learnings," where Doctor Ayo asks the Sole Survivor to check in on Mayor McDonough, but no one else.

20 More Vaults To Explore

via: nexusmods.com

Within the Art of Fallout 4 book were several pieces of unused concept illustrations. Of those pieces of art were jumpsuits for Vaults 113, 117, and 121. Unfortunately, no further information was released about these three Vaults and what their true purpose was. Fallout 4 doesn't include a large number of vaults in the game. Bethesda may not have had time to develop these vaults any further. It's interesting to learn that we may have had more vaults to explore in the Commonwealth.

19 Bad News For The Nakano Family

via: fallout.wikia.com

Fallout 4: Far Harbor begins with a couple seeking their teenage daughter, Kasumi. She believes that she is a Synth and belongs with her people in Acadia. Once the Sole Survivor arrives on the island, Kasumi will help her uncover a deeper battle between the Children of the Atom and Acadia's leader, DiMA. Kasumi is marked as an essential NPC, which means she cannot be eliminated.

In some hidden voice files, there were plans to have Kasumi pass away in the fight.

Her father will mourn her passing when he is given the terrible news.

18 Super Mutant Pets Return

via: fallout.wikia.com

Centaurs are a mix of mutated remains from different animals, including humans. They have appeared in all of the main Fallout games, except for Fallout 4. According to the Art of Fallout 4 artbook, Centaurs were intended to appear in the game. The Fallout 4 Centaurs would have included creatures with three heads and limbs growing on their backs. For some reason, the Super Mutant companions were not included in Fallout 4 and were replaced with Mutant Hounds.

17 The Lights Go Out

via: fallout.wikia.com

Diamond City is described as the "Great Green Jewel of the Commonwealth." It is one of the largest settlements on the map. The community is built on a baseball field. The city is always covered in lights, even at night. In a cut quest called "Off the Grid," the city would have lost its power. Synths take over the Diamond City's Radio Tower and taken hostages. Depending on the faction that assigned the mission, they would stay afterward to help protect the settlers.

16 Super Mutants With Weird Enhancements

via: imgur.com

Many of Fallout 4's Super Mutants have been produced in the Institute. They were stolen and experimented upon, then released into the Commonwealth. Their experimentation may have gone much further, according to illustrations in the Art of Fallout 4 book.

Super Mutants were drawn with cybernetic enhancements to make them even more dangerous.

There is also concept art of Super Mutants with mutated horses. These horses also have cybernetic implants. Nothing would have made the Commonwealth more horrifying than robotic Super Mutants riding horses.

15 You Can Have Too Much

via: youtube.com (zhooper)

Chems may be helpful to achieving your goals. They have the possibility of causing an addiction if too much is used over time. The Sole Survivor will suffer from status effects until the habit is ended by other chems or a doctor. Several chem addictions were cut from Fallout 4 that initially appeared in previous games. The cut content includes cravings for Nuka-Cola Quantum, flavored Mentats, Jet Fuel, Psychobuff, Bufftat, and the Mysterious serum, which is only found in the Cabot House.

14 The Perks Of Staying With The Brotherhood

via: gamerant.com

The Sole Survivor can join every faction in the game with few consequences. Joining the Brotherhood of Steel could have had more benefits for the Sole Survivor. The faction had three perks before they were cut out of the game. The beginning perk "Initiate" would make the Sole Survivor take 10% less damage from mutated enemies and Synths. "Knight" would reduce the size of a fusion core explore. The final perk level "Paladin" would enable the Sole Survivor to recover their health while inside any suit of Power Armor.

13 Careful Where You're Aiming

via: fallout.wikia.com

The Sole Survivor finds themselves engaged in several battles during their search for Shaun. Many enemies use powerful weapons, such as rocket launchers and even mini-nukes to take down their foes. These weapons will take down opponents, but most of the environment will remain, no matter how much you attack it.

Gamers found plans for destructible environments within the game files.

If a building was in the way of the firefight, it would get destroyed. Enemies, or even your companions, may get hurt if they're in the way.

12 A Reason For All That Water

via: nexusmods.com

Most of Fallout 4 takes place on land. There are large bodies of water in the Commonwealth, but there's little to explore at the bottom. Fans uncovered unused assets for underwater creatures. One of the most frightening is a giant squid. The monster may have been mutated during the Great War. We imagine this creature could grab onto the Sole Survivor and pull them underwater. If it became too injured, it may blast a shot of ink and swim away. It's unfortunate these sea creatures were never used, even in Far Harbor.

11 Learn More About A Poetic Raider

via: gamerant.com

Many of the subways within the Commonwealth are home to either Super Mutants or Raiders. There was cut content for a subway terminal for a Raider poet named Griswold. A copy of his poems can be found in Monsignor Plaza. Players would have had the opportunity to learn more about the Raider, such as where he wrote his lyrics. Within the tunnel was a terminal for his love interest, a woman named Sue. According to his holotape of poems, we sadly know her fate when she didn't return his feelings.

10 Become Elder Early, Thanks To Danse

via: youtube.com (Connor Ridley)

In Paladin Danse's companion mission, he is banished from the Brotherhood of Steel. The faction has discovered he is a Synth and the real Danse no longer exists. If the Sole Survivor convinces Elder Maxson to spare Danse, the mission would have continued.

Danse asks his friend to take out Maxson and take his place as Elder.

Together, they will fight Maxson until the end. If the Sole Survivor survives, they will claim the title of Elder of the Brotherhood of Steel.

9 Another Strange Funhouse

via: mygaming.co.za

One of the most dangerous unmarked locations is a parking garage maze. It's easy to get into the garage, but leaving isn't so easy. There were plans to make another dangerous maze inside of a warehouse with industrial machines. The complex would contain several grenade bouquets, Tesla coils, and makeshift explosives. The Cymbal Monkey toys within may trigger the traps. Once inside, the Sole Survivor will have trouble escaping. The wood bridges that connect areas in the warehouse are rigged to break. Unfortunately, the dangerous warehouse didn't make it into the final version of the game.

8 Become The Station Master

via: vg247.com

The Railroad is an underground group that helps Synths escape the Institute and live new lives. Working with the group would have granted the Sole Survivor three perks, that were unfortunately cut from the game. "Secret Agent" made the Stealth Boy item last for ten more seconds. "Station Master" was a perk that could help players earn more caps. The perk gives the player a 5% bonus when selling items. The final perk "The Heavy" granted 10% extra damage to any member of the Institute. This perk is included in the final game but has a time limit.

7 These Treats Are Better Than Nothing

via: monkeymods.com

Depending on what difficulty you're playing Fallout 4 in, you will need to eat to survive. Eating consumables will not only fulfill your hunger but heal the Sole Survivor.

According to unused game content, there were more plans for consumables when things became desperate.

They included Ghoul Meat, which fulfills hit points but also, obviously, causes radiation damage. Desperate players could also ingest "Edible Cockroaches," which are Radroaches before they were affected by radiation. Though these items aren't gourmet meals, they will save any player having a tough time finding food in the Commonwealth.

6 A Traitor, Not A Patriot

via: fallout.gamepedia.com

If the Sole Survivor decides to work with the Railroad, they'll learn the faction has a contact on the inside. "Patriot," or Liam Binet, helps Synths escape to the Commonwealth. In the base game, the Institute doesn't learn more about the leaker. In the cut quest "Plugging a Leak," the Sole Survivor can help the Institute find the traitor. The Sole Survivor can either report Liam for 1,000 Caps or frame Doctor Ayo instead. Liam will be grateful for your help and continue his work helping the Railroad.
