Usually, these round-ups will include news from both Pokemon Unite and Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. However, there’s only one game we can talk about this week: Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

The spin-off hit shelves this Friday, so I’m impressed that you’ve put it down long enough to read this round-up. All of our stories are about the new RPG this week, with our first one going over the reception it's received so far.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus Is Good, Actually

After many were disappointed by Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, fans were cautiously optimistic about Legends: Arceus. It looked new and exciting, but the graphics left a lot to be desired. Thankfully, it’s a smash hit so far, with both fans and critics. There are positive reviews across the board, as the game is largely seen as a bold new direction for the series, one that players hope Nintendo will stick with in future instalments, rather than going back to the same old, tired formula.

Akari In Pokemon Legends: Arceus Is Already Everyone's Favourite Rival

There’s plenty to love with Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but Akari is stealing the show right now - if she’s your rival, rather than the player character. Akari and her male counterpart Rei have pretty different personalities if they’re in the rival position, with Rei always looking confused, and Akari constantly angry. It’s her facial expressions that players love the most, especially since we don’t get this in many Pokemon games.

People Want Pokemon To Step On Them

Legends: Arceus is full of changes to the Pokemon world as we know it, and one of them was particularly surprising. The Pokemon are huge, and because this is the internet, people are really into that. That’s right: this year’s Lady Dimitrescu is a huge Gardevoir. If you want something a little more wholesome, pick yourself up a massive Bidoof - it's already one of the most huggable ‘Mons out there, and this just makes it even better.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus Has Fans Arguing Whether Pokemon Can Shrink Or Not

One of Pokemon’s greatest mysteries is how the hell do they fit in Poke Balls? The Balls are tiny, and some of the Pokemon are massive. Well, fairly early on in the game, we find out that Pokemon actually have the ability to shrink all on their own - the Poke Ball just harnesses this power to fit them inside. Fans are split on this explanation, with some choosing to believe that the Ball is the thing making them small. Because I guess the thought of loads of tiny ‘Mons running around is kind of creepy.

Snorlax Can Backwards Long Jump In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Kinda

We’ve been over a bunch of Legends: Arceus’ features today, but this final one stands out in that it wasn’t intended at all. Well, probably not anyway. Pokemon in this new spin-off are a lot more hostile than we’re used to, and will charge into you if you get on their bad side. However, there’s a wild way that you can dodge away from these attacks: bait them into crashing into a wall. It won’t actually stop the momentum - far from it - as it instead builds up until they free themselves. At this point. They’ll blast away at top speed, like a backwards long jump in Super Mario 64. It’s beautiful stuff.
