This week was filled with a bunch of Pokemon news, even if some of it wasn’t from official channels. A Pokemon leaker has given us an apparent update on Scarlet & Violet, claiming that the upcoming game will feature time-travelling Pokemon, but no new Eeveelutions. On top of that, we have a new massive Pokemon plush taking the fanbase by storm.

All of that and more features in our run-down of the past week in Pokemon news.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Leaker Finds Time Travelling 'Mons But No New Eevee Evolution

We haven’t had much official Pokemon Scarlet & Violet news recently, so naturally leakers have come in to fill the gaps. Earlier this week, it was revealed that we probably won’t be getting a new Eeveelution, with an apparent insider source failing to find any evidence of one. However, they did find “time travelling” Pokemon, which would fit in with the themes we’ve seen so far in the promotional material. The story is also said to be shaping up well, although Pokemon will once again have to be cut. This time around, it’s said that Joltik, Milotic, Wailord, Metagross, Jynx and Golurk are getting the axe.

Ridiculously Big Spheal Plush Comes To Pokemon Center Japan

Nintendo’s merch team knows what we want. After we all fell in love with the life-sized Lucario plush late last year, we now have another large lad to waste all of our money on: Big Spheal. The very round boy is a metre tall and costs $360, but is currently only available on the Japanese storefront. With any luck, the rest of us will get a chance to adopt one for ourselves soon enough.

Pokemon Fans Are Just Finding Out That Ash Once Named His Pikachu

After all this time, it turns out Ash’s Pikachu has a name - and there’s no way you can guess what it is. Believe it or not, since the 1990s, the iconic electric rat has actually been called Jean Luc Pikachu. Yes, really. This comes courtesy of the third chapter of the manga The Electric Tale of Pikachu, which was rediscovered by fans online this week. Clearly a Star Trek pun, Ash’s pal even responds with “how engaging” when she’s told the name, just to throw another joke in there. I don’t care if this has never been brought up again, it’s canon.
