Disney has pushed back the release dates of multiple upcoming movies including Thor: Love and Thunder and Indiana Jones 5.
Moviegoers have become accustomed to release dates being delayed, sometimes multiple times over the course of the last 18 months. Movie sets and theaters were forced to shut down at the height of the pandemic which led to longer waits for some highly-anticipated blockbusters. Just when that dust appeared to have settled, Disney has announced another slew of delays.
Variety has reported Disney has pushed back the release dates of a number of upcoming movies, most of which are in the MCU. The closest release date to be affected is Dr. Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. The sequel, which will likely change the face of the MCU as we delve deeper into phase four, was supposed to be here by March 25, 2022.
Dr. Strange 2 will now not be here until at least May 6, 2022. Since everything in the MCU is intricately intertwined, Thor: Love And Thunder and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's release dates have also been delayed. Thor 4 will now not be here until July 2022, which in turn has pushed Black Panther 2's arrival up to November 2022.
The domino effect continues in the MCU. All of the above now means The Marvels won't hit the big screen until 2023, and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania now has a release date of July 2023. Despite the revised slate also moving the release dates of two unannounced Marvel movies, there is no mention of Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3. James Gunn's next MCU movie will still be here on May 5, 2023, for now.
The MCU isn't the only franchise to have received a release date shake-up. Indiana Jones 5, which is also awaiting an official name, has been delayed almost an entire year, now releasing in the summer of 2023. An untitled Disney live-action movie and another unnamed movie from Disney-owned 20th century Fox have also had their release dates altered.
