Remedy Entertainment surprised players with its decision to make Alan Wake 2 a digital-only release on PC and consoles, saying that this move will allow it to keep the game's price below the current $70 threshold for triple-A titles. However, not everyone welcomed this solution, and one company in particular has already stepped forward to offer its assistance in publishing physical copies of Alan Wake 2.

Shortly after the announcement that Alan Wake 2 would not have a physical release, THQ Nordic reached out to Remedy, urging them to "give it some thought," and offering its services in the game's distribution. The publisher has reminded that they"did the disc version of Alan Wake for PC back in the day," and would love to do it again, completing the full circle. "Just because one person (or company) does not love physical, there is plenty who still do," the original message reads, echoing the sentiments of many players who feel the same way.

The idea to release a triple-A game exclusively in digital format is nothing new, and it has sparked mixed reactions among players once again. On Reddit, multiple threads have emerged discussing Remedy's approach to the sequel, with many comments highlighting the drawbacks of a digital-only release. One significant concern raised by fans is the previous removal of the original game from digital storefronts due to licensing issues, among other disadvantages. This also means that there will be no collector's editions available for Alan Wake 2 fans, disappointing those who were hoping to acquire one.

If Remedy and THQ Nordic decide to release a physical version of Alan Wake 2, there is a possibility that fans may be charged an additional fee for the disc. However, many enthusiasts are willing to pay extra for the opportunity to own the highly anticipated sequel in physical form, especially considering the investment they made in purchasing consoles like the PS5 with a built-in Blu-ray drive.

At the time of writing, Remedy has not commented on THQ Nordic's offer. As stated in Alan Wake 2's official FAQ now, "there are currently no plans to release Alan Wake 2 on disc." However, given the recent offer and the disappointment expressed by fans on social media, Remedy still may reconsider their initial decision in the future. It remains to be seen whether both parties will come to an agreement regarding the distribution of the sequel. Nevertheless, there is a promising indication that a physical release of the sequel might be possible.
