Netflix is about to get a whole lot spookier. The streaming giant has ordered a brand new live-action series based on the life of Wednesday Addams. As if that wasn't spooky enough, the series will be directed by the master of macabre, Tim Burton.

While rumors of this project's development have been floating around for a few months, no streaming service had been tied to it. Now, Netflix has given the go-ahead for an eight-episode series. According to Variety, the aptly titled "Wednesday" will be a young-adult TV series described as "a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams' years as a student at Nevermore Academy." The show will follow young Wednesday in her more formative years as she "attempts to master her emerging psychic abilities, thwart a monstrous killing spree that is terrorizing the local town, and finally solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago - all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore."

The series was created by Al Gough and Miles Millar, the writing and producing duo behind films The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and Spider-Man 2, as well as the creation of the television series Smallville. Both will serve as show runners and executive producers along with Jonathan Glickman, Andrew Mittman, and Gail Berman who were executive producers on the 2019 animated film Addams Family.

Tim Burton, well-known for his more macabre and quirky takes on the mundane, is set to direct and executive produce the series. This will mark his first foray into the world of live-action television, having previously worked on the animated series Beetlejuice. Burton's directing style feels like a great fit for this series that will blend the supernatural with the mundane. Wednesday Addams has always been portrayed as a bit of an outsider and Burton has a history of telling powerful stories about social outcasts and misfits like Edward Scissorhands and Lydia Deitz from Beetlejuice. It will be exciting to see just how he will handle such an iconic character.

Of course, Wednesday is not the only Addams family member to make headlines this month. It was previously revealed that the popular Lady Dimitrescu (The abnormally tall and sexy lady) from the upcoming Resident Evil Village was based on Morticia Addams. Looks like the Addams ladies are getting ready to take center-stage and that is definitely a good thing!
