TINY METAL: FULL METAL RUMBLE is hoping to provide Advance Wars fans with their tiny turn-based warfare fix.

There’s a certain genre of game that was epitomized by Advance Wars, the turn-based strategy warfare series that first arrived on the Game Boy Advance, and then later on the Nintendo DS. It let players take control of adorable tanks and soldiers and engage in heated combat without the whole, “end of the world” scenario that usually comes with these sorts of large-scale engagements.

The last time we saw an Advance Wars game was way back in 2008. It wasn’t until 2017, with the release of Area 35’s TINY METAL, that the adorable turn-based strategy game came back into vogue.

And now, TINY METAL is getting a sequel in FULL METAL RUMBLE. Coming next week to the Nintendo Switch and Windows PC (via Steam) is a further refinement on the tried, tested, and true formula of making big wars happen in tiny packages.

TINY METAL: FULL METAL RUMBLE will have a full, 39-mission long campaign that sees three interwoven plots converge in a single world ravaged by war. Commander Wolfram searches for the legacy of her lost brother while Artemisian Captain Nathan Gries hunts for powerful Lost Tech artifacts that could give him the edge in his next engagement. Meanwhile, Zipanese Lord General Tsukumo searches for a mysterious enemy with a hidden agenda.

In addition to the campaign, FULL METAL RUMBLE will come with 77 skirmish maps and 21 multiplayer maps to engage with friends and opponents online. A brand new tutorial will get new players up to speed, while a streamlined and refined UI will make planning your next move easier than ever.

Each player’s army is headed by a Commander with special active and passive powers. Units such as mechas, tanks, helicopters, and regular troops can combine their attacks for powerful combos, while sneaky commanders can use the terrain itself to cloak their units’ movements.

TINY METAL: FULL METAL RUMBLE arrives on Nintendo Switch and Steam on July 11th.
