Titanfall 2 is one of the best single player FPS games ever made. The gameplay, story, level design and characters, all fit perfectly to create one of those awesome games that definitely needs a sequel but never got one – you know the kind. However, there is actually a big reason why Respawn hasn't yet announced Titanfall 3, and it's called Apex Legends.

In Apex Legends, Respawn and EA have one of the most successful multiplayer shooters after PUBG and Fortnite. It has a massive fan-base and popular appeal. It's also unique in terms of its art style and overall vibe. So, it seems that the studio doesn't want to take any chances by dividing or confusing the fan base it has built up since its launch.

In a conversation with Barron's (via PC Gamer), Respawn CEO Vince Zampella discussed the possibility of Titanfall 3. While he was open to the prospect, Zampella revealed that Respawn would only announce the game if and when it made sense. While the studio isn't working on anything new right now, all focus is still on Apex Legends.

"I hate to say yes, then people latch onto that, and then skewer you when it doesn't come," said Zampella when asked if Respawn would ever make Titanfall 3, "But I would love to see it happen is the real answer."

"It has to be the right thing," he continued, "It’s such a beloved franchise for the fans and also for us. If it is not the right moment in time, the right idea, then it just doesn’t make sense." While Apex Legends is set in the Universe that was established by Titanfall, many Apex players have never played the older games and might not even have an idea what they are.

Zampella reiterated that Respawn first needs to find a way to make sure that the introduction of a new Titanfall game doesn't disrupt everything that the studio has done to build up the battle royale. "How do you do something that doesn’t confuse people that are Apex fans, but not necessarily Titanfall fans yet," he continued, "It's a hard question to answer".

While it wasn't exactly supposed to be Titanfall 3, EA was working on an unannounced single player game based in the Titanfall - Apex Legends Universe. Codenamed Titanfall Legends, it was supposed to be directed by designer Mohammed Alavi, known for his work on the first two Modern Warfare titles. Unfortunately, the project was quietly cancelled.

We later learnt that Titanfall Legends was reportedly going to feature BT at some point, along with Blisk from Apex Legends. According to Jeff Grubb, the game was going to feature Blisk searching for the remains of the Titans, and BT would have been brought back to life.
