The schedule for this year's Tokyo Game Show has been revealed, including a tease of "exclusive news" to be announced by Xbox.
After the long summer following E3, video games are back on the menu. The release schedule tends to dry up during July and August, but Gamescom has brought an end to that period. New games are now arriving thick and fast and will continue to do so through the fall and into the holiday season.
On top of that, even though Gamescom is now over, there's still another convention to look forward to. This year's Tokyo Game Show kicks off on September 30 and will run for the entire weekend. The schedule for the four-day event has now been revealed and features when exactly the weekend's heavy-hitters will be stepping up to the plate.
One of the biggest presentations taking place during TGS's opening day will be Xbox's. Xbox has made it abundantly clear it is trying to make some serious in-roads into the Japanese market during this generation of consoles. This will be the second year in a row it has been present at TGS, and its listing promises some “exclusive news”. Last year its TGS presentation included information about Microsoft Flight Simulator and the Series X|S in Japan.
Other highlights on the TGS docket include presentations from Sega, Square Enix, Konami, and Capcom. If you're running down the schedule picking out which shows you'll be tuning in for, be sure to note that all times are listed in Japan Standard Time. That's 13 hours ahead of EST which means some early mornings over TGS weekend. Xbox's showcase, for example, will begin at 5 am EST and run for a little less than an hour.
While a lot of what's on show at TGS will be for the Japanese market, there will be a few big things sprinkled in there for everybody. There are also details on the TGS site about how you can attend the weekend in VR. If you have an Oculus Quest 1 or 2, you can use it during the event to visit virtual booths. A pretty cool alternative while we wait for the world to return to normal and conventions to become physical events again.
