GTA's remastered trilogy launches on most major platforms later this week. Some people have had the chance to play it already which has resulted in footage of the game surfacing online. Don't worry, we won't spoil anything for you here. Well, apart from one thing which you have presumably already learned by reading the headline of this article. That despite having almost 20 years in which to learn, Tommy Vercetti still doesn't know how to swim.

Vice City is modeled after sunny Miami. A location situated on the coast which suggested a large part of the game might take place in the water. While there are boatloads of boats, those who played the original will remember that Tommy is unable to swim. In fact, Vice City's leading man dies almost instantly upon making contact with H2O.

As demonstrated by a video showing off footage from the remastered version of Vice City, Tommy's lack of ability in the water remains. Tommy and a lady companion both end up in the drink, at which point the player is informed that they have failed their mission. The original manual for Vice City warned people to stay away from the water through risk of being attacked by sharks in an attempt to protect Tommy's secret.

Apparently, the real reason Tommy can't swim in the original Vice City is simply because Rockstar didn't have time to add the mechanic. Since mods have been added since then allowing Tommy to swim, some thought it might have been included in the remaster. Not to mention the fact that Rockstar has been boasting The Definitive Edition's GTA 5-style controls. That won't apply to swimming, at least not in Vice City.

On some level, it seems a little silly to warn people of leaks about remastered games. Rockstar has been very careful to reveal as little as possible about the trilogy ahead of its launch though. While a lot of what you discover and play through in The Definitive Edition will simply be a better-looking version of what you have played before, there will still be surprises. How good the game looks, what elements have remained, and which ones have been removed are all still to be discovered by those who have managed to avoid leaks.
