Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 has already become the fastest-selling entry in the series' history, having shipped a whopping 1 million units in less than two weeks.

This success marks a welcome change in the Tony Hawk formula. Despite having established itself as a pop culture titan two decades ago, the Pro Skater series has been looking a little worse for wear of late — we're not even going to address Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5.

Reviews for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 have been almost unanimously positive, with critics from all over the world praising its careful juxtaposition of current-gen visuals with  the games' original atmospheres.

This praise hasn't just manifested in review scores, though. Having sold over 1 million units in just ten days, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 has launched to astronomical commercial success, and has quickly cemented itself as the fastest-selling title in the franchise's history.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 Goes Platinum.

The news comes from a Twitter post published by the official Activision-Blizzard account, which you can check out for yourself above.

As you can see, the record was smashed yesterday, September 14, a mere ten days after the game's September 4 launch. Given that there's no official platform breakdown provided, it's reasonable to assume that the figure accounts for total sales across all versions of the remaster.

The triumph of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is promising news for fans, especially when you consider how the game has been received by the community at large. While high review scores and strong sales are obviously indicative of success, it's also worth noting that Paradox Interactive fans have decided to mod sick, medieval ollies into Crusader Kings 3, meaning that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is the most iconic skateboarding title of the ninth century, too.

In all seriousness, it's possible that these record-smashing sales figures could instigate a resurgence in skateboarding games. Although the genre has fallen by the wayside in recent years, the success of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 — coupled with the recent announcement of Skate 4 — proves that there's clearly an appetite for games of this nature.
