Total War: Warhammer 3 takes the Total War series back to the old world of Warhammer. Taking control of your favorite fantasy army and laying waste to your rivals is always a fun time.
However, as fun as the game is, there's no harm in adding a few mods here and there to switch things up a little. With all the mods available on Steam, it can get a little overwhelming, but here are some of the best ones to alter your Total War 3 experience.
10 A Rotten Reskin For Festus
The armies of Nurgle are... unique to say the least, and as a general of one of Nurgle's most powerful armies, Festus is quite the embodiment of Nurgle's gifts.
A Rotten Reskin for Festus takes The Leechlord and makes him look even more gruesome. Gone is the Shrek-like green color, and instead he has a more sickly brown-green hue. A great match for the leader of such a unique chaos army. This is perfect for one of the chaos god of disease's favored warriors and such a fond creator of disease as well.
9 Smirk's Blood
How much blood is too much? If you're a follower of Khorne, there's definitely no such thing. But, if you're anyone else, then you may find the blood in Total War 3 to be a little too flowy.
This mod tones down some of the blood spray during battle, making it a little less overwhelming, and allows you to focus more on the battle at large instead of being blinded with huge puffs of blood every time one of your Khorne berserkers swings an axe.
8 Better Camera Mod
There's a lot going on when your army clashes with an opposing force, so it makes it worthwhile to see as much as you can. This mod alters some of the base camera's janky-ness and allows for some actually pretty cool angles on the battle at large.
This is a definite download for any players that want to sit back and watch as their army demolishes the enemy - a great choice for streamers as well.
7 Points Of Interest With Pictures
There are a lot of great and beautiful locations within the Warhammer lore. Why not learn more about them and see them in all their majesty with this mod?
For the Chaos campaign and Immortal empires, this adds various icons around the map with locations that are described in the larger Warhammer lore. If you're a longtime Warhammer fan it can be great to be reminded of where certain locations are and feel further tied into the game at large. For those new fans, this is a fun option for learning more about what you may have missed in the Warhammer universe.
6 Grand Order Of The Reiksguard - All In One Collection
Fan of the Reiksguard from the Warhammer books or earlier games? Maybe just wanting a few more human units to play around with overall?
Either way, this mod is a conglomeration that adds a whole bunch of Reiksguard units to your disposal. From heavily armored knights to spearmen, and even mounted units, the Reiksguard are not to be taken lightly, and it is amazing to see them cross the battlefield to lay waste to whatever army they face next.
5 Reloading Animations
Another great mod for a bit more realism, this adds a series of animations for units across various armies who may need to reload their weapons between ranged volleys.
From hand-gunners to cannoneers, watch now as they rush to reload their guns as the opposing force crawls closer and closer. Not only great for realism, but also for those who want a little bit more variation in their units' movements.
4 Climate Adaptations
The debuffs for entering a different climate can be quite a pain. It does make sense that your lizardmen would be at a disadvantage in the frosty plains of Kislev, but they would get used to it sooner or later, right?
This mod replicates that. Your army will slowly overcome the debuff when entering a different climate until the debuff goes away altogether. This is great for anyone who finds the climate debuff to be a little too steep or anyone who wants a more dynamic and realistic experience.
3 Simple Dynamic Settlements
A mod that is purely cosmetic, this is actually a fun one for those who are really into the conquest ideal of Total War 3. This allows any settlement your army has taken over to alter to reflect your army.
It can get a little odd at times seeing your human soldiers and settlers moving around somewhere that would be home to a chaos army or a disgusting ogre hovel. Now after a little time, they will adapt the city around them to a normal city of the empire, as will any other army you choose to play as in this mod.
2 Dwarf Thunderbarge
Raining pain from the skies is the name of the game for this Dwarf unit. The peak of Dwarven ingenuity, this dirigible allows your Dwarf army to have an aerial component to their attacks.
This allows for all new strategies and a load of fun as you watch this unit float up to your enemy's army and rain cannon fire down on them. If you're looking for a little more oomph or more variety in your army, this is one to look out for.
1 Legendary Characters
There is a slew of named characters in the Warhammer universe. From amazing heroes to cruel monsters, this mod adds the ability to have the general of your army be one of the named characters.
Skulltaker, The Masque leading its own Slaaneshi army faction, Epidemius, and Haurg Frostmaw are just a few of the generals this mod adds to your roster. Nothing beats playing as one of your favorite characters from the expanded lore.
