Updated June 10, 2022, by Jessica Filby: With Tribes of Midgard now gracing PlayStation Plus, a plethora of new players have joined the fray and are trying out this exciting survival game. However, with a new game comes challenges and a few mistakes that end up getting made. Luckily we have a few more Tribes of Midgard tips to stop that from happening and allow anyone the chance for success and survival.

12 Level Up The Right NPCs

The Enchanter NPC

Leveling up your NPCs is something many will end up looking past, after all, a key strategy is to level yourself up to stay alive. However, a tip for beginners when starting Tribes of Midgard is leveling them up quickly and effectively. After all, they provide you with crafting items, and protection and will ultimately be the difference between success and failure.

If you feel like you are lacking in armor then level up the armorer first, or if it's potions then go for the alchemist. Try to look at what is the lowest and start feeding those NPCs some souls.

11 Don't Worry About Water

Sailing

When it comes to playing RPGs or survival games, there are two things players test. Fall damage and the ability to swim. The answer for Tribes of Midgard is yes, you can take fall damage, and yes, you can now swim. Luckily you don't need to worry about water anymore since going near it will not force you to restart, take damage, or drown.

When the game was released you initially couldn't swim but after a season two update, you can now enjoy the fresh waves of Midgard and even sail its high seas. It's well worth trying out.

10 Use Monsters To Cut Trees

Efficient Tree Chopping

Wood is a vital resource in Tribes of Midgard so nothing is worse than when your Axe breaks, and you're far from the village. Or perhaps you're one of the more efficient players who prefer to try and let other people do the resource collecting, rather than working the Axe yourself?

Either way, you can use the enemies to your advantage by getting them to charge straight into the tree. This has a chance to knock it down and can be a relatively easy way to gather wood.

9 Use The Quest Board

Use The Quest Board

The base aspect of Tribes of Midgard can be a little repetitive and can often leave beginners feeling like they have nothing else to do. However, that will be because they are missing out on the fantastic Quest Board that's available in the village.

They are entertaining, have fantastic rewards, and can often get you to a high enough level and high enough confidence to progress through the game. It's great if you want a little break from the day-to-day explorations of Tribes of Midgard.

8 Resources Are Everything

Tribes of Midgard resources iron deposit & crafting

Resources are what get you armor, weapons, and the means to protect yourself in the night cycle. It's incredibly important and often overlooked at the beginning of the game since everyone wants to try to kill or explore. However, when you initially start the game try to collect as many resources near your village as you can.

To get the basic equipment you'll need to get hold of iron, stone, wood, leather, silver, and small bones. There are so many you need to collect but it's super important to set time aside to collect as much as you can. You should have enough time to sort out your weaker gear before heading into tougher biomes but it's really important to remember the importance of resources and crafting items, you'll need them constantly.

7 Upgrade Upgrade Upgrade

Tribes of Midgard Upgrade Town

When you find a set of armor or a weapon you love using it can be a challenge to part with them, even if you start becoming a little underpowered. Nevertheless, in Tribes of Midgard upgrading constantly is the key to survival, particularly in the Saga mode. You need to look for lumberyards, quarries, and farms to keep alive, especially with all the resources they'll give you.

That being said, don't get selfish, upgrade those farms, quarries, and lumberyards and you'll be overwhelmed with useful resources. You should also try to upgrade your villagers, especially the tinker and blacksmith, they'll be more useful than you could ever imagine. Upgrade your village and yourself often.

6 Search For Shrines

Tribes of Midgard Shrine

Shrines are equally pretty and important. You can recognize them on the map from the star icon and they are usually a little tough to get to at the beginning. However, these shrines can be unbelievably useful landmarks that you need to keep an eye out for.

They're essentially fast travel points that allow you to get back to your village, no matter how far away you are. This will help you get to where you need to be without the endless running, but they're only available once you've found them. Make this a priority and you'll be forever using them.

5 Golden Horns

Tribes of Midgard Golden horn fight

There are so many useful resources and landmarks in Tribes of Midgard to keep an eye out for, but Golden Horns can be one of the most useful by far. They're a little tough to get hold of, only being rewarded to you after killing a Jötunn, but that's where people can mess up. These rare rewards are so easy to spend and it feels right doing so, but many don't realize there's a limit on the number of horns you can get per session!

Therefore, you’ll need to preserve it for succeeding runs and try to be careful using them. Do spend them when you need to though as they can get you legendary equipment and some useful runes.

4 Save Eir Effigies

Tribes of Midgard Eir Effigies and battle

Eir Effigies are pretty useful and will definitely save your life at some point in the game. There are two useful ones you'll come across, red and blue which give you health and mana respectively. Due to the usefulness of a little extra health and mana, it can be really easy to use them whenever you need a little pick-me-up. That can be a good plan but they should be saved for more important occasions.

It's vital to keep hold of a few Effigies when you and your team are preparing to battle a legendary enemy or a Jötunn. It all depends on your power and skill but those battles are tough and the last thing you want is to have used all your effigies before a battle like that.

3 Use The War Chest

Tribes of Midgard war chest

Located just by the armorer in your village, the war chest is an often overlooked lifesaver. If you're playing multiplayer this chest can hold items that can be shared between every player. That being said, it's still really useful for single players too, since you don't need to get the items out to use them.

It's probably best to put resources in here so your inventory isn't clogged up as you can use them while they're in the chest. It's also a good place to put backup armor and weapons since it all remains in the chest when you die so you can grab something to defend yourself quickly.

2 The Blood Moon

Tribes of Midgard Blood Moon battle

When you're just starting the game a blood moon can be hell. It brings tougher enemies and can be a real challenge at lower levels. However, once you know-how, these blood moons can be a really good way to progress and grab some materials and resources.

The night after the blood moon you'll see that no Helthings will attack the village.

Every few days, a blood moon will bring in tougher enemies. The night after, no Helthings will come after the village. Players should use this to their advantage and try to farm enemies, resources and search the area without the worry of your village being in danger.

1 Get Tons Of Souls

Tribes of Midgard Souls

Even after playing the game for a short while it becomes apparent that souls are the most important aspect of the game. Due to this, it becomes pretty obvious that you may need to farm for them. It can be a little tedious though so here are some tips for the best ways to farm souls:

  • Kill weaker enemies like Wolves, Goblins and Dökkalfars
  • Target Camps
  • Chase and slay Jötunns a day or two after they arrive
  • Catch the Roosters of Ragnarock
  • Finish side quests

Try out some of these tips, and you'll be rich with souls. Just make sure you prioritize them, there's little you'll be able to do without souls.
