Last year's rather solid Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince is getting some unexpected DLC in the near future. Publisher Modus Games and developer Frozenbyte have announced that a new story campaign titled "Melody of Mystery" will be hitting the PC version of Trine 4 sometime later this month. Console players will need to wait until early 2021 to get these levels.

Containing six new areas to travel through, the plot revolves around the trio of protagonists returning to the Astral Academy to investigate a mysterious slumber that has afflicted the students. This seems to tie into the main theme of the base game, which saw the titular nightmare prince cursing people across the land with an eternal night of deep sleep.

Having not extensively played the previous games in the series, I found Trine 4 to be a fairly enjoyable game. It was maybe a bit simple, but by stripping back the excess of modern platformers, it honed into something that felt like a long lost SNES game. It was breezy, exciting, gorgeous to look at, and well-paced.

I'm not sure if Frozenbyte will ever do Trine 5, but I can accept extra DLC a little over a year later for this game. That shows me the original plan wasn't to cut off content and hold it back for release in the future.
